I was watching a video where this guy mentioned some annoyance at traveling through Oregon/Idaho/Wyoming. Basically he mentioned it was the norm to be ignored when trying to go get drinks or food at a local bar and he mentioned that he pretty much got followed out of one town in Oregon by the cops to ensure he didn’t stay in town.

The only example I’ve personally had happen to me was in Appalachia. A family member got extremely sick and had to be hospitalized for a few days in a small college town. It was mainly ok except we went to get lunch one day in the town square at what we thought was a well regarded lunch spot and they absolutely made a point to ignore us until my dad got frustrated and made them pay attention to us. Even then, they had a strong attitude of “why are you eating here, you shouldn’t be here.”

No but I went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch with my coworkers including a dim wit who didn’t order anything but water with lemon. Needless to say, the waitress never returned to refill our chips.

Lived in Morristown, Tennessee for three years. Small town East Tennessee can feel that way. The strange thing about Tennessee coming from Louisiana is how everyone up here identifies with what county they grew up in. Especially in the more rural areas.

Ehh, kinda. Mid-80's and we are leaving from a camping trip in Grand Isle. Dad stops at seafood place, guy sitting there shucking oyster's.

Dad - How much are your shrimp?
Guy - We don't have any.
Dad - How much for live crabs?
Guy - We don't have any.
Dad - How much for oysters?
Guy - We don't have any.
Dad - (In French this time) That's too bad they aren't running right now.
Guy - (looks shocked) How many pounds of shrimp you said you wanted?

St. Francisville. I had friend in college who was from up there, and she invited me and some of my friends up to her house for a party. I think it was her bday. My friends make it a point to get along with everyone. Her local friends where complete assholes that were passively aggressively looking to start shite. Out of respect to her, we didn't escalate. Months later, I'm passed out after a party at her house off campus, and a group of those guys showed up and beat the hell out of her new boyfriend. One of the guys was apparently her jealous ex boyfriend who became a cop up there. Shocking...

Years back I ended up in Saratoga Springs, Wyoming. Population was around 200 or so. Was at a little bar there and felt like a damn celebrity. They ended up having a late snowstorm and I didn't even have pants with me. Went in to a little thrift store and came out dressed like the dumb and dumber cowboys . I felt very welcome there. Same with the small towns where I hunt in Kansas and Missouri, very welcoming.

Small towns down here? Yeah, I don't really feel welcome.

I was passing through a small hicktown in Washington state back after I got out of the service when the local sheriff made it a point to let me know “ my kind” weren’t welcome in his town.

shite got real and he soon regretted his decision.

Might have been the original FAFO

Edit…dammit, 93 beat me to the punch

I feel this is common in every small town. Cops are either the high school football player that never left or the local riff raff that got older and needed a job.

Many years ago I was driving through Wyoming and needed to fill up. You had to pre pay inside and they told me has was for locals only. They did let me pre pay enough to get me to the next town though. I thought it was odd but they said they only buy enough to service the locals and not random people passing through.

The rural areas are very wary of coastal elites moving into their towns. They’ve seen what’s happened to other areas out west that have been ruined by explosive growth and Californians.

The one time I let my HS friends and College friends hang it went like this. HS friends acting like total dicks. I kicked them out before they got too wasted and was really embarrased.

Had no idea this would happen and never crossed the groups over again. They were all from similar backgrounds with similar interests.

I wouldn't say that I felt unwelcome, but I drove through Turkey, Tx. one time.
It's a small town, I'm guessing maybe 2,000 people and was the hometown of Bob Wills. They had a monument for him and a turkey statue.
It was a Saturday around lunch time, but there was absolutely no traffic. None.
I saw this old fashioned service station that had been restored and beside it was Bob Will's old tour bus. I stopped to check it out.
I was there in that town for probably 15 minutes and didn't see another human soul.
Pretty weird.

On the way to the Grand Canyon we stopped at a country mall gas station in a town that’s like 93% Native American. We got some death stares plus the guy running the buffet and the cashier were huge assholes

I’ve hunted all over N America and have been to some super sketchy looking bars. Never had a single issue and most everyone people has been friendly and/or curious about Louisiana.

Yes. In Tuskegee at times, but not every time.

Also in Andersonville, Ga, but for a different reason. That is one spooky place. The ground seems to ooze an evil vibe.
