Florida officials announced that 1,800 state Highway Patrol troopers are the first in the nation to receive federal credentials under an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agreement allowing them to arrest illegal immigrants on their own.

quote:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said at a press conference on May 12 that the state’s ongoing partnership with ICE included what is known as 287(g) agreements, where state and local law enforcement partner with ICE to help arrest and deport illegal immigrants.

The Florida Highway Patrol entered into a 287(g) task force model that gives them the power to arrest foreign nationals who are in the country illegally and place detainers on them during routine policing, such as traffic stops.

In essence, it allows local law enforcement to operate as an extension of ICE under federal supervision.

Yall whatever your thoughts on the 2024 primary are, DeSantis is so far ahead of the pack as a governor that it’s laughable.

I like it... One more step in making difficult for illegals to remain in this country illegally... Every Republican led State should be implementing policies like this to cause them to self-deport or move to a Dem stronghold and let them choke on what they created...

Because I'm against consent decrees on principal only (fed vs. state, states should handle their shite and be penalized if they don't... NOT give up their C&C of their own law enforcement) I'm against this in principal.

In a practical sense I'm all for it because it is more cooperation than a decree and they maintain their independence.

The reliance on federal money was already there, I don't think this changes anything. Hell, the Feds may pay FL and foot the bill for detention; I'd be curious to find out if that's the case.

The Feds already pay States and Counties for detention if they entered into an agreement to do so... I would have to dig but I think the Turnip slowed or canceled some of the agreements...

Funny you say that, seems like Abbott somewhat follows Desantis' lead on a lot of things. Hope he's in line on this one also.

This is a crossing the Rubicon moment. We're all in and there's no going back. Democrats' wet dream for nearly a century has been a federal police force. The next Dem president will federalize the NY & NJ state police, CHiPS, etc and start rounding up enemies of the state.

ETA: the DVers are missing my point. I'm not opposed to this. I'm all for it. Just realize the future implications. I hope it stiffens our resolve to see it through. I probably shouldn't have used the Rubicon. Maybe Cortez ordering his men to burn the ships would have been better.

We have millions of foreign invaders on our soil. We need to remove the invaders. We should have military/national guard going door to door. The next person that is murdered, robbed, raped, trafficked, etc… by a foreign invader is inexcusable with the resources we have to expel every one of them.

We can use them on l20, as well. This should be a national project.
