If you have not read "Outlive" by Dr. Peter Attia

I STRONGLY recommend it.
He gets into the technical weeds a bit (Which I appreciate being an engineer), but it's such a good read/listen.
Synopsis: "Outlive" explores strategies for extending lifespan and improving healthspan. It emphasizes proactive measures like nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management, along with advanced medical insights to prevent chronic diseases and optimize overall well-being. The book aims to empower readers to live healthier, longer lives.

Have it as well along with a cheat book that Amazon recommended as a break down.

Great book. Complimented by another great book, Obesity Code, written by a kidney doctor.

Will have to look into it

It's not worth your time. Dr. Fung has good ideas but they aren't as scientifically or medically founded as Attia's. Cut sugar and fast. Works for some people, but we do not have definitive medical knowledge about how and why those strategies would be good for healthspan.
That's what I appreciate about Outlive. It overviews the medical pathways of diseases that diminish healthspan while discussing the intervention mechanisms that prevent those diseases. There's no fluff or whimsical hoping.

Really good book. I also follow his podcast, wonder what else he does for those who sign up for his concierge medicine. I think in general he covers a lot of stuff that you should be thinking about if you're on this board and getting close to your 40s, maybe 30s depending.

Attia is great and you are correct, he does get in the weeds in every thing he does. You can listen to the audio book on Spotify as well.

Attia is objective about most things but one place the science and his beliefs diverge is protein intake targets. He recommends 1g/lb/day, whereas 0.7 is likely sufficient for optimal muscle synthesis (unless you are in a calorie deficit/on a cut where 1g/lb may be optimal). For a 200 lb person, that’s 140g/day vs 200 g/d. The former is easily obtainable in 3 meals without much effort, the latter requires 67g per meal or supplements. The cynical side of me thinks it because he invests heavily in David protein bars (which are more than $3/each, ridiculous) and a company that sells expensive venison jerky, so is financially incentivized to believe that. Other side of me thinks he may just be drawn to dietary extremes based on his history of doing the keto diet for years, prolonged fasting, etc.

Really misguided. He recommends that for those who want to increase muscle mass. The study he cites recommends a minimum of 1.6 g/kg/day (.72g/lb) with his practice aiming for 2.2 g/kg (1g/lb).

Attia's podcast is fantastic. I've been a subscriber for a few years now.
His book was poorly written. Is there a lot of information in it? Yes!
But it was put together poorly. And as a huge fan of his podcast, I hate to say that.
Attia's principles for a healthy life are spot on based on research that he thoroughly vets.
One thing though, his personality is borderline OCD IMO. His workouts, the time spent, and equipment he uses is not going to be possible for 99% of the population. He misses the practicality mark big time.
Lift, run/walk at over 4 mph, throw in HIIT sprints or cycling 1-2x/week, keep calories in check, protein up, sleep well and guard your mental health. A minimum effective dose of each is what the vast majority should do and with that, one could sustain it.

Ive read it 3x and recommend it to everyone. It should be must read.
I took notes and asked my GP about getting Apo B and A tested and he had no idea what I was talking about. Last time I saw him.

Thankfully my GP reads and listens to Attia so he was happy to let me do the CardioIQ test with Quest. Also thankfully all of my bloodwork was perfect.

Yep, I read his book and would agree with your assessment.
I loved his intro and was a very interesting read though.
I liked the way he catalogues the 4 major diseases as 'The Four Horsemen'.
His intro into each of the Four Horsemen is pretty good but he starts to get way too wordy/wonky and goes off on tangents.
I am from the school of the KISS method, ie Keep It Simple Stupid.
This not to say Dr Attai is dumb or anything of the sort.
Dr Attia is an extremely intelligent man and has great success.
I can't say too much about his podcasts though. I have skimmed through some of them on YouTube and seemed to be too wordy/wonky for me.
But his work is doing a lot of good for a lot people. So what ever works for you.
BTW, The Four Horsemen he list are:
1. Cardiovascular disease
2. Cancers
3. Metabolic disorders
4. Neurodegenerative disease

I’ve started the audiobook. Yes, he needs to get to the point better.

That’s sort of his thing. Optimization. Not worried about what can the normal person do but what is optimal.

I like Attia but I have to agree, I stopped listening because it was simply not digestible, for lack of a better word. Unless you have three hours to sit back uninterrupted and absorb it without distraction it’s too much for a casual listener.
