Questioning the Qatar airplane donation

Erik Erickson raises some good points in looking at this deal.
First he points out Qatar is not our friend:
Indeed, Trump once said Qatar "is a funder of terrorism at a very high level."
Erickson next puts a good bit of the blame where it belongs: Boeing.
Oh yes, Bondi got over $100,000 per month to lobby for Qatar once.

The current 747 used as Air Force One was commissioned by President Ronald Reagan in 1985. Pay attention to the timeline. Boeing built the plane in 1986. It took its first test flight in 1987. It became Air Force One in 1990 with President George H. W. Bush.
Donald Trump commissioned the new Air Force One during his first term in 2018. It has still not been built. So the President of the United States is flying on a thirty-nine-year-old Boeing 747 and, due to delays, President Trump might finish his second term before the new 747 makes its first test flight. Boeing now does not expect delivery until 2029.
With Qatar divesting its 747-800 anyway, President Trump has commissioned a defense contractor to refurbish the plane in an expedited manner. This was all covered ten days ago by the Wall Street Journal without ABC News and Jon Karl’s salacious spin. The New York Times likewise covered the story as part of President Trump’s frustrations with Boeing.

There are a lot of fair angles on this.
I agree with you. I agree the other side (and our own side, MAGA and not) are corrupted. I agree that it's hard to fight the opposition with neutrality and without bending rules (see the lawfare issues). But, I also see the argument that when we perpetuate the gray area stuff to our benefit we're just deepening the hole.

My guess is that it will be stripped down to the frame and completely refitted. Not much room to hide in that process.

I haven't paid attention to the plane thing, but Don, Jr. starting a club in D.C. and charging $500k is not a good look when the right just spent 5-10 years complaining that Hunter Biden sold access.
My mom has terrible TDS and was whining that the Trump kids are selling crytpo all over the middle east. I'm not sure if that's true, but this does get in to some tricky ethical issues of what normal business can they conduct while DJT is president and what is making money off of his position.
