Especially if your only consequence was having a small little community disliking you for a little while before eventually forgetting. I know I wouldn't

It’s pretty crazy. His salary was already guaranteed. He didn’t have to play or do anything.

I’d amputate my arm for 30 million

I don’t know. He’s already got like 80 to 100+ million anyways so I mean maybe it doesn’t hurt him to walk away from 30 million. I know it would us because we don’t have 30 million so no definitely I wouldn’t walk away from it if I didn’t have it. But I also know that I would’ve handled that situation differently than him.

That’s the takeaway. It was worth forfeiting $30M not to live here another 8 months. He could’ve easily collected a check on IR and just show up to the building daily.

He was going to be on a team that was likely going to cut him next year just to rehab from surgery in a city he doesn’t want to be in. Then he’d be 35 coming off surgery and not playing a year and looking for a new team? He's a backup at that point, I see why he retired and he still got $10m. Hes not some saint here or anything by doing this.

Good for him. I do think the move is kinda smart for him in terms of what he wants to do.

He’s starting that hometown YouTube thing with his brother and involved in that Central Valley mega church. A lot easier to get buy in for those kinds of projects making a selfless move like this.

Will he recoup the 30M with their success? Probably not, but t likely more about figuring out what he wants to do at 35 now and quality of life options.

Easier to forgo when you’ve made 200+ and laid down roots in Fresno.

Feels like the Saints told him if he retires the wont go after the money and if he comes back next year they will trade him wherever he wants to go. Not even sure the Saints would have control over him at that point. Just don't understand why you give up $30 million. When it's rightfully yours.

Because he’s not on the team now and can do whatever he wants. He actually has to show up and rehab otherwise.

Well it’s easier when you already made $200 million.

While I do think he absolutely didn't want to come back here, he probably could've gotten surgery and not even have to show up much. Just rehab on the west coast, check in every once and a while, then get cut next offseason.

Possibly true but from what I’ve read there seems to be indications he doesn’t want surgery/rehab.

Players rehab away from teams literally all the time. Almost exclusively these days. He could have totally kept his plans to himself and not showed up at all.

First of all, he's kept maybe half of that. He undoubtedly has an expensive lifestyle at this point. Four kids who will also have expensive lifestyles. Plus the desire to have wealth passed down from generation to generation to generation. Also, that's probably the last large chunk of change he'll ever make in his life. And he's only mid-30s. An extra 30 million is absolutely nothing to turn your nose up at. What he did was commendable
