Colette Hirstius, a New Orleans native who currently oversees Shell's operations in the Gulf of Mexico, will take over as president of the European oil giant's U.S. business, the company said this week.

Though Shell's North American headquarters is in Houston, Hirstius will remain in New Orleans, making her the first president of Shell USA based here, according to Cynthia Babski, a company spokesperson.

Positive for the City. I assume they encouraged her to move to Houston.

Being president of Shell in the US doesn’t mean what it used to.

The OT will find a way to make this negative news for the city.

They are supposed to be building a new office in that area north of the Convention Center, but that’s been delayed for a long while now due to BS:.

I’m really surprised that she got this promotion. Never been all that impressed with her.

FWIW - I ran into another senior Shell executive over the weekend that lived here for just under 10 years and been gone for about 5, including an international stint. He and his wife had no connection to the city before moving here. Said he would move back in a heartbeat and has actively campaigned to be re-assigned here. He and his family miss it terribly.

That's admirable considering they may have asked her during the interview if she will move to Houston. If I was in her position I would certainly say yes afraid that if I said no I would be denied the promotion.

I am hopeful that she will push to move more employees to NOLA.

Big win for the city. Anyone else would have moved to Houston for obvious reasons.

No she hasn’t.
Rick Tallent was the boss until maybe five years ago.
I’m sure he’s the executive the poster above you is talking about:

I know you guys wont believe it, but the slots in NO are coveted to the point they have had to initiate a system that fairly allocates the slots across the company. When the call came for volunteers to move to TX there weren't many.

Shell is a multinational right? if you are an engineer from France or Italy the last place on the planet you want to live is Houston TX.

That stroke must have really did a number on you

Shell to keep Gulf of Mexico operations in New Orleans, move to new building near river

quote:

Shell employs roughly 800 New Orleans-based employees in its Gulf of Mexico operations, with an additional 2,000 working offshore. The company is relocating these 800 employees to a new office building in the River District of New Orleans.

quote:

The company employs around 3,000 people in Louisiana, and in 2023, announced plans to move around 800 of its New Orleans workers into a custom-designed office building in the planned River District neighborhood upriver of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The firm expects to relocate there in 2027, Babski said.

Not true at all. Many in Shell covet
New Orleans, especially expats.

Broadly speaking, Houston is seen as a vibeless, corporate concrete jungle by many non U.S. Shell staff.

Yes, actually I do. So does anyone who is even a little bit familiar with the history of the company over the last 30+ years.
