There is an abandoned 70s ish Ford Truck on my property. I have the registration but no title. It's not registered in my name (i think the registered owner may be in prison). I have no key. Is it possible to have a key made for this truck if i wanted to fix it up and use the truck? I believe it was running within the last 10 years.

first thing to do is get a provisional title for a heritage vehicle.

Nah he's on drugs and doesn't want the truck anymore. It's been abandoned for many years. I just need a key for it to see if it'll kick on.

Doubtful.

Most cons are candyasses.
That's why they're cons.

Nope. I'll be happy to get the old crappy Ford truck that nobody wants off your property for you.

It won't.

You need a battery, drain the gas, and an oil change before attempting to turn it over.

Go see a justice of the peace and ask them to do a good faith possession. That should allow you to get the truck titled in your name

ETA… assuming you’re in Louisiana

Yeah Alabama has similar abandoned property laws. You just have to go to your local courthouse (or maybe have a sheriff deputy come out) and you tell them you have abandoned property on your property. They will then write up some document for you and "try" to co tact the original owner. Then the owner has so many days to come get their property.

In Louisiana if you have had possession of it for 10 years you can go to the Justice of the Peace and have them declare you the owner and you can get a title in your name and do anything you want with it.

if you are just looking to use it then you can literally buy the lock cylinder on Amazon with key for $15. They are easy to change out - just watch a youtube video.

Amazon

Abandoned Vehicles

One who possesses a moveable as an owner for 10 years acquires ownership by prescription. Neither title nor good faith is required for this prescription. The bottom line? If you can prove you have possessed a vehicle for 10 years, then you can apply for a judgment recognizing you as the owner.

Before you try to start it, take out the spark plugs and put a little oil in each cylinder. Let it soak overnight. Take off the belts and manually crank over the crank shaft.
Do this every day till the crank shaft spins without too much effort.

Or simply pour some ATF into the carb.
