New Survey Shows 75 Percent of Graduating College Students Have Yet to Secure a Job

Truly worrisome!
And before we have the wise guys jumping up and saying it's because colleges are selling idiotic majors, this is very much also happening to engineering and comp sci majors, even ones with good internship experience and good skills. 'Entry level' jobs are expecting 3 years of experience. I know because I work with such kids and they're among our family friends.

The problem most definitely DOES NOT lie with only the graduates. Of the ones I know personally, several are hitting the 'we're having a hiring freeze right now' wall.

My son just graduated from NC STate
he and his roommates are still looking to secure jobs...
my son has to complete a summer internship...in sports management
but he's looking for a job job..
next phase in life, I had no idea what I was doing after college..
it will work out in time

Frankly the big problem this generation is having has more to do with their socialization than anything else. I have a nephew who just chose from among four different job offers. Good job offers. And all he has is a marketing degree with a GPA hovering around 3.0. But he wasn't raised like 90% of this generation was raised so he stuck out like a sore thumb. In a good way

We’re hiring, 50k starting with a class B CDL and haz mat endorsement

The problem is almost 100% the fault of employers
Most employers are the most unreasonable dumb asses of all time
Anyone that has ever had to search for a job in the last 10 years knows the whole process is completely retarded

There is a program in Immokalee, FL (near Naples) that trains high schoolers to be truck mechanics. $80K guaranteed when they graduate from the program.

Legal requirements have completely destroyed HR.

I am routinely hearing that candidates have to go through a 3-interview process (or more) for just a single job. And even after all that, employers are rude and don't give a final answer. Courtesy works both ways.

Interview 20 of these people and you might get 1 worth damn.

Leading indicator that the economy is about to collapse. Graduated from undergraduate into the subprime mortgage crisis. Similar situation for people in my cohort. If law school applications are through the roof - and I believe I saw somewhere that is also the case - then you can bet your arse we're in a big contraction.

I have had multiple employers do that to me this year.

I know at least 3 who are excellent people with strong credentials and great upbringing. And yet........they're still on the sidelines.

It's more the rule than the exception. Sadly!

Sports Management? Your son has a worthless major. Congrats

If they are young I’d recommend starting at the dead arse bottom and working their way up.
If they truly have valuable skills and are dependable it won’t matter if they are pushing a broom or boxing up orders in the warehouse. They will rise to the top over time. Having their degree will get them farther eventually, but they may just have to pay their dues for now.

I can't recall if I had a job before graduating... I either got my offer within the last two weeks of school or the first two weeks of being a graduate

I’d think 25% of graduating college students already having jobs lined up would be the norm.
When I was graduating a long time ago, I had a job but it wasn’t a career job, and I don’t believe most people graduating with me had jobs lined up yet.

it's incredible how unprofessional some HR departments/companies are.

No! It’s just because Gen Z is lazy and autistic! That’s the only explanation, don’t you get it?
A lot of older people on here think way too highly of themselves and think it’s just the same as when they were coming up.
