Lost high schools of Louisiana
Posted on 5/2/25 at 12:11 pm
Posted on 5/2/25 at 12:11 pm
Found this list on a Louisiana message board. To good of a list not to share here. Played several of these schools in the playoffs and did not know they closed.
High schools that still exist under a different name (i.e. Chapel Trafton, Farmerville, Lake Providence) are not listed. Please add any that aren't here. You'll note that there aren't many LIALO schools on this list.
Schools that were consolidated will be on the next post.

No Huntington on the list.
Also seems like we played a school called Plain Dealing Academy but that could have been a dream.

Catholic BR was originally St Vincent’s Academy.
ETA. I missed this.
High schools that still exist under a different name (i.e. Chapel Trafton, Farmerville, Lake Providence) are not listed.

Angie and Wesley Ray are 2 schools in the same community in Washington parish. They gave way to Varnado HS.
Back in the my days in school (80s-92) Wesley Ray was the community elementary school, Angie was the Jr high and Varnado was strictly HS.
Today Wesley Ray still exists but only as an elementary school (pre-k- 5th). Varnado is grades 6-12.

What a huge waste of tax and parish payers dollars. All those buildings are gone, and most if not all were built expecting them to last forever and longer than any of the homes around them.

This was my middle school in 77-79. It became a high school a couple decades ago and now it's gone...except the gym and ballfields.
