Indie games are better than AAA right now and aren't 80 bucks a pop

If you are fed up with AAA gaming make the switch to playing more indie games. Much cheaper and support game devs and companies who actually care about their products and gamers.

Blue Prince is the best new game out right now followed up by CO: Expedition 33, neither are full price games. AAA games have been getting hammered by way to high of expectations and by having their scope by way to big, the result is shitty and expensive games one way or the other. I think the market will ultimately correct its self and we will start seeing much more 20-30 hour games that are built on a platform for a sequel or two with much less dev work needed for the 2nd and 3rd. Xbox's moves today with price increases are only going to hurt them more.

Have we ever seen this with an already released generation (excluding obvious HW upgrades/bundled accessories, like Kinect?)

ETA, slightly OT: Any trend that has teenagers pining for $1300 graphics cards is out of control. Thank the lawd for the Steam wishlist; I can't play the Oblivion remaster with my RX580, but I also have 40 games on my wishlist that will go on sale, and hundreds of games I've never even installed already.

No. This is the only generation that the consoles didn’t decrease in price over time. At the moment you can still buy a ps5 bundled with astro bot for 450$ but that will likely go away soon. This generation sucks.

Thanks to this board Ive been playing Dave the Diver for the past month or so and it's been one of the best, immersive games I can recall playing recently. And 3 years in they're still putting out DLC for it.

I bought on sale this year, but haven't played yet. Looking forward to it.

I rarely play AAA games (RDR2, Skyrim) and am particularly choosy when I do.

The only tech that becomes less affordable over time.

I already do my part by never paying full price for lack of content. I dont care how good last of us is. Im not paying full price to play a 15 hour game on PC. Especially not when there are games like KCD2 you can easily get 100 out of. Hell even $1 per hour of content is fair.

GTA 6 i will buy because i know i can dump 1000 hours into online. Even claire obscure is only 30 hours, so i will wait for the sale.

This coming from a guy that wastes 300 a week on door dash. Gotta have some principles.

I am not inherently wild about most indie games, but I do gel with some of them from time to time. The AA space is where it's at for me. Games like Robocop Rogue City, Plague Tale, Vampyr, Space Marine 2, etc.

I think the biggest problem is that indie studios prove that big triple A studios don't need 500 people working on a game in order to make good games. Big triple A studios suffer from the same level of organizational bloat as a lot of corporations

But you can play the fourth release of the Last of Us with ever so slightly improved textures. I mean look at the 10% increase in detail on that rock 200 yards in the distance!

There's an old maxim that says that any project will eventually expand to consume all resources allocated to it. Giant corporations have no sense of cost control any more in almost every industry and video games are one of the worst offenders.

Bigger budgets clearly do not produce better games. I would say at this point it's almost the opposite. Bigger budgets in a way lead to worse games, much in the same way too many cooks in the kitchen produce worse food.

These AA studios are producing games that look and play every bit as good, if not better, than AAA studios at 10% the budgets.

Im finding myself with not enough time to play the games for the first time in a while.

I still haven't had time to play kingdom come deliverence 2.

Clair Obscur leapfrogged it because i like turn based slightly more and it should be a quicker game to beat.

Is metaphor considered AAA? Id assume so.

Yep this generation of gaming was a complete joke and a truly epic failure by both Microsoft and Sony.

You can buy a 75 inch TV right now for less than that. There is a real problem with how the consoles have priced themselves.

I don’t think I can go back to any rpg that holds your hand after playing expedition 33.

There are so many indie horror titles to play, I don't know if I could ever get through them all.

Baldur’s Gate III has really changed what most people expect game studios to be capable of, but I really feel like the game is WAY too big. If Act 1 was a game by itself, it would be a perfect 10/10. They could have easily split it into at least 3 different games.
