1. This will be to start a cook off team for a high school in Texas.
2. Prefer new.
3. On a trailer.
4. Willing to drive + or - 10 from the Houston area to pick up.
5. Budget is in the 10-15k range. (Funds are coming from a grant and not property taxes for the Texas folks reading who would object)
6. Will have to fill out vendor paperwork for tax purposes for the school.

Who do you recommend?

We selected Boathouse Smokers from St. Amant to build a smoker. We couldn't be happier. Great guy to work with.

Facebook market has some from time to time. They also have people on their that advertise new custom builds.

I missed your budget originally. See if Aaron Franklin will build you one. He is the GOAT wood smoker in Texas.

Franklin BBQ Pits

I'd contact him and see if he would be willing to build one for you. He may say no but he may do it for the price you can pay given its for a HS team.

No idea about this company but they have a 500 gallon smoker on a trailer for well within your budget:

Pitmaker

They make nice stuff. I dont know if they make something within your budget, but youd have to call them and ask.

I like that all the pits face outward, it gets super cramped with everything facing inward.

If I had welders capable I would. Our Ag department is fairly strong in plant and animal courses and performance...Welding, not so much. If you know of a great welding teacher I am all ears.

Also, grant funded. May as well use the funds this round. And they are gifting the funds only for this purpose.

Well, the revolver might not be a good choice.

The revolvers look cool. But I also serve as the Safety Coordinator for the District. So yeah, not the best idea.

Any Louisiana companies? I get to make the road trip to pick up the winner and drive her back.

Moberg smoker in Dripping Springs. I got a 110 gallon smoker from Sunny a few years ago and love it. He was extremely helpful through out the whole process. He has 250 and 500 trailer in your range.

No huge rush but obviously the sooner the better. Grant will be funded in early June.

I had Klose and Gator Pit both are in or near Texas and bullet proof. I would give GP a slight edge. Go vertical.

Skip all of these and go directly to Austin Smokeworks. For a 300 gallon they will give you the most useable cook space. 500 and above throw in Moberg, Mill Scale and a few other Texas builders. Not sure how many meats you have to do at a time, but with high schoolers if you’re worried about fire management I’d just get a 500 to give you more wiggle room.

You can definitely get a 500 in your budget. My 500 from Primitive Pits was a little under 15k with options.
