Spinoff: Would it be bad to ask my employer if I can take CBD type products for sleep aid.

Our drug policy states no illicit drugs at work, during hours or off site.
I was partially told that they dont check for THC any more, but not offcially and am not very certain that was what I was told.
I basically dont want to paint my self a target. I work a non contruction computer job.

Are you subject to random drug tests? If not then do whatever you want on your own time.

You think it’s ok for you to smoke drugs just because you work with computers? The entire country of Spain lost power for a whole day because of computers

Honestly, I just question whether you're likely to get anyone who will definitively give you enough confidence in the approval to warrant the potential increased likelihood of being on the radar for future testing.
It seems like in most of these scenarios testing is on the way out and was pretty unlikely before. My non-legal opinion would be you would want to be committed to getting an absolute answer from someone with authority before you started inquiring.

Why ask most places now a days some of their workers reek of the smell of weed and they’re still employed.

You should explore why you are having trouble sleeping rather than taking drugs

Put your policy in AI and then ask it what it thinks.

As someone who worked in HR for about a decade and had responsibility for our screening programs: If your company doesn't have a random drug testing program currently and you aren't in a safety sensitive role where you could be tested if someone hit you (as an example), just do whatever you want. You don't have to ask your company permission for what you do in your time away from work.
Additionally, Shelly or Tammy in HR may tell you you're good to go if you take CBD and won't piss hot...but if you do even after taking ONLY CBD they certainly won't have your back and will fire you immediately without giving a shite. So there's no point in asking.

On what basis/time frame are you subject to testing?

Have you tried melatonin gummies as a sleep aid?
Posted on 5/1/25 at 11:57 am to SmogkDeizKnutz
There is CBD products without THC, you could try them first. Melantonin would be a better bet though.
Most companies only test at hiring and never again, you will know if your company is different.

This. Contrary to popular belief companies are not targeted people with drug test to get rid of them. If you aren’t subject to randoms or periodic screening just do it AND don’t tell anyone at work. You’ll be fine as long as you don’t show up obviously stoned.

Yes it would be bad to ask. WTF are you thinking?
Posted on 5/1/25 at 2:35 pm to SmogkDeizKnutz
It would be a bit silly since CBD is not something that should cause you to test positive, assuming it's a CBD only product with no THC whatsoever.

DADT is the policy to follow

Louisiana so dumb, they passed a law that prohibits anything with more than 5mg THC, i guess the medical marijuana people didnt want that taking away from there cut, typical Louisiana BS

Employers test for THC, not CBD.
