Limestone
After this semester due to financial reasons. A few weeks ago, the school announced the possibility of closing. They were supposed to have a meeting a week or two ago to decided to either completely close or just keep their online program open. They postponed it to give more time if they could get $6 million in donations to keep the whole school open. That failed and they voted to completely shut down.

Gordon could've signed them to an NIL deal and owned the whole school.

It appears to me that any liberal arts school without a very strong regional (at least) academic reputation is in some danger over the next decade. Cost of attendance for these places has gotten way out of line for a lot of them relative to nearby public options and their employment networks. The NESCACs, W&L, Davidsons, etc. of the world have the donor base and reputations to be fine, but anything below that tier could be in trouble.

Must have found themselves between a rock and a hard place.

Just like Birmingham Southern. Would not be surprised to see places like Millsaps and Rhodes die in the next 10 years.

Agree. I think schools like this are in trouble or will be in trouble in the next few years.
I think Limestone’s on campus enrollment was around 700-800. Their online enrollment was around 700-750. It was a good school (not academic recognized like others). I did a year and half in their online program and enjoyed it for the most part. Only reason I did classes there is they offered a huge discount for military and South Carolina National Guard matches the federal tuition assistance with their own state tuition assistance.

They have one of the best D2 lacrosse programs in the country. Won several national championships. Also, they started their football program a few years ago and Jericho Cotchery is their coach. Their 1st baseball coach was Gaylord Perry.

Going to be a lot of these.

Did they buy KY in bulk for the pitching staff?

I don’t know much about Millsaps, but Rhodes and Sewanee are right on the edge of my hypothetical cutoff. I don’t know enough about the balance sheet of either to comment with any confidence, but Sewanee at least has carved out a pretty significant niche for itself, even if it isn’t as selective as some higher ranked places.
Maybe the demise of some schools will help some others hang on, as there is definitely demand for the smaller, more personal academic experience. With less options, maybe it will be a boon for some places.

Thank you for actually using the name of the university and not just “Southern University” clickbait like that last poster did.

Millsaps $115mill endowment and 600 students.
Sewanee $420 mill endowment and 1700 students
Rhodes $425 mill endowment and 2000 students
Sewanee and Rhodes appear to be in better financial positions than Millsaps whose enrollment has steadily declined over the past years.

Sewanee needs to get back into the SEC.
Give Bama the death penalty to make room.

It seems like education is becoming more big-brand oriented these days. Especially with the expansion of the bigger school. Hell, Bama is more than twice as big as when I was in school there in the late 90's.
Small schools that are, expensive, have little specialization and no real academic reputation are going to have a hard go of it when spots in more notable schools are more readily available and actively recruiting them. The value simply isn't there for perspective students.
