How do you handle the pitching moving forward?

How would you utilize Evans and Cowan?

I’m still using them to win a Friday or Saturday game and if there available on Sunday, great.

I wish someone would take that Sunday role and run with it. Hopefully Ware or Schmidt can step up.

Sundays on a TBD status, based on who is needed most to pitch on Friday/Saturday and who's available for Sunday.

Friday and Saturday are locked. If you absolutely need a win in a tight game on Friday or Saturday, Evans or Cowan are the guys and you take it. If the games go a different direction and you don’t need them, one of the starts on Sunday.

Evans looked good to me. I think he'd be my Sunday guy.

Friday = Anderson
Saturday = Eyanson
Sunday = Evans

Nah. If you have a chance to win on Friday or Saturday (especially Saturday if you won on Friday) then you bring in Evans to close it out and piece together Sunday.

Depends on how each game is going. If we’re up a 2 or 3 runs after 5th or 6th inning, then Cowan or Evans come in in relief and TBA Sunday hopefully with the series already 2-0. If we down a few runs then maybe we save Evans for Game 3 but I think Cowan and Evans along with Anderson and Eyanson as our starters will be very hard to beat come regional play.

Bingo we have a winner.

Evans was another hard hit ball from being yanked in the first. Every single ball was murdered to that point. And then, nothing for 5 innings.

Most shocking turn around in a long time

That's most likely the plan going forward.

I’d love to know what Jay told him during that mound visit in the 1st.

I’m not so sure about shocking. If there’s one thing this season it’s that Evans has proven to be a stud pitcher. He settled in and was dominant. I wasn’t too shocked that he was.

Cowan and Evans have best WHIP on the team, followed by Anderson. Evans showed you he can start and Cowan can too.

Use them however you need to in order to win. They can do it all. Good starting pitching is the most consistent way to win games, but the last outs are the hardest to get.

If Guidry was healthy and you could get more out of Ware, Schmidt, and Williams, you could use Evans or Cowan as a starter every weekend.

So, this is what I’ve had against Jay’s approach to yanking some of the bullpen after 1 walk.
I feel in some of these earlier games, he could have changed the approach from “one and done” to “you got us here, you get us out”.
Maybe, just maybe we could have found one addl pitcher that we can rely on, for just a couple of innings. Hell, a couple of outs…
Now we have 4 pitchers we can rely on.
That kind of rotation isn’t ideal for tourney play. We could really use one more to reliably get us 2-3 good innings.

But none of those 3 have stepped up. Schmidt needs to step up i think he's a guy who could give you 3-4 innings and save Evans or Cowan.

Jay knew Shores wasn’t the Sunday guy. His problem was compounded by the current lack of quality pitching depth. Basically it’s a rob Peter to pay Paul scenerio. You go with Evans or Cowan and the Friday and Saturday relief is shorted. Jay was probably hoping someone like Ware or Schmidt would step up.

For now exactly like we have been

Anderson - Game 1
Eyanson- Game 2

Cowan and Evans as needed game 1 and 2 and if we don’t need them they start game 3

We need to get Rizy, Ware and Williams reps.

Jay pretty much said as much in his postgame interview with the media.

It worked out this time because Friday and Saturday starter did well and went deep in the games....and that we were behind on Saturday and didn't use either. Not sure it is going to always work like that, if ever again. Agreed, wish we had a Sunday guy, but, once again, we don't.

Series by series basis is the only correct answer.

Friday Anderson then Cowan if we have a small lead

Saturday Eyenson followed by Evans if we are up, rest of pen if down or up big

Sunday Evans if we haven’t used him yet and if we have then piece it together up 2-0.

The goal should be get 2 every weekend and we have 2 stud starters and 2 studs we can close or use for game 3 if needed.

If our bats come alive like yesterday then that makes this a lot easier and better. If our bats go back to slump it gets tough
