Moving Stanfield up in batting order, #5 BA in SEC

Chris Stanfield is #5 in the SEC in Batting Avg. (.383) in conference play, and #1 in Doubles, but is still locked in as the 9-hole hitter. This offense desperately needs a spark, and moving him up in the batting order would increase his opportunity for more at-bats.
Hope to see Jay make a change and try Stanfield at the top of the order with Curiel, batting either leadoff or second. The kid is hot, would be ideal to maximize his number of at-bats.

kills me when casuals come saying things like this then mad if we have a first round exit. This lineup friday wont be our last lineup or the first time we have used it. Move along and let adults talk.

Makes way too much sense...so he probably won't do it :(

I'd like to see him quit messing with things that really don't need to be messed with.
Stanfield is fine in the 9 hole.
Braswell is fine at 3B.
Rotating RF and DH are fine in a rotation based on matchups and "what have you done for me lately".
Etc.
I understand what he's trying to do, which is maximize his lineups. But, it's time to start settling in.

How do you fix the obvious issues like Jones and Frey constantly striking out at the top of the order or Dickinson’s inability to hit with RISP without messing with the rest of the order?

Think you missed the sarcasm in his post...

I still don't get the decision to PH for Stanfield in game 3 against Bama. I understand the LF bat, but you don't pull your best SEC hitter right there.

Frey can be fixed by either moving him down in the order or using someone else.
Unfortunately, you're probably not doing a whole lot with Jones other than hoping he fixes things. He's too good to sit, he's shown you in the past he's too good to be batting 7th or 8th.
Dickinson is batting .338 in conference and .347 overall so that either has to do with variance and/or him pressing too much in those scenarios. Again, an issue you just hope smooths itself out later in the year. Make small changes like approach can help, but what he does already works pretty damn well so I wouldn't go messing with it a lot.

Stanfield at 9 is important because he flips the lineup to Curiel and you potentially give guys like Milam Jones Brown and Dickinson chances with runners on base.

I agree that he has done some unnecessary tinkering, but I wouldn't mind some sort of lineup shuffling.
Below are the bottom 4 hitters in SEC play and the batting order position that they have been in most often:
Frey: .244 BA - batting order: 4 hole
Jones: .244 BA - batting order: 2 hole
Pearson: .224 BA - batting order: 4 hole
Milam: .200 BA - batting order: 5 hole
That's the middle of your order most games that are the worst hitters.

I could see him moving him up to 1st or 2nd. But if he does not, then 9 is probably ideal. At 3, 4, and 5, you need someone to drive in runs. After that, having the 9 hole able to get one base means you are potentially setting up the 1 through 3 batters to have a runner on base.

It was a terrible decision, and I don't say that in hindsight. As soon as they announced the pinch hitter, group of us watching asked "what the frick are we doing?"

Man seeing this combined with CJJ putting Jones at 3rd yesterday really kinda feels like he has tried everything to keep Pearson and Frye in the lineup. I’m starting to think Scone didn’t articulate his rant the other day in the best way but he was kind of over the target.
Seems pretty evident that Brown needs to be full time in right and CJJ needs to adapt to platooning the DH based on matchups. It’s more of a Frey vs Pearson debate at this point. Brown not in the starting lineup every day is coaching malpractice

In the moment, and in jest, I asked if Jay bet against the game... that decision combined with Mayers in with bases loaded, a know pitcher with control issues, had me chugging beers.

Braswell not playing at 3B in all games is what baffles me. Reaves is not very good, and putting Jones there is as dumb as a decision as letting Mic Paul or Dalton Beck into a batter’s box.
Jay is a good coach, but he makes some bone-headed dumb arse decisions from time to time.

I love having Stanield at 9…. Puts a speedy runner OB when the top of the lineup rolls around. It’s effectively a pre-leadoff hitter.
Wouldn’t mess with that at all

but putting him at 1 would also have him at the top of the lineup when it rolls around.
Stanfield
Curiel
Dickinson
Jones
Brown
Hernandez
Milam
DH Platoon Frey and Pearson
Braswell
Braswell is hitting .325 and getting on base .439
I am fine with my 9th hole hitter just being a guy who can get on base.

And our leading hitter in SEC play would get more at bats each game.

True. Personally I wouldn’t mess with it though. It’s a damn good feeling when you’ve got a 9-hole producing like he is.
But I can definitely see the appeal of having him at leadoff or 2 given his numbers so far
The unknown is would the numbers stay the same if you moved him up. That’s why I say leave it like it is. There’s quite a bit more pressure/expectations to produce in the 1-2 hole.
