When living outside of Louisiana How or what do you do to replicate Louisiana dishes?

I’ve lived away from home for quite a few years.
How do y’all enjoy red beans and rice, gumbo, jambalaya etc?

I may get a ton of down votes, but i enjoy blue runner for their gumbo bases (and red beans/creole cream style).

I love trappeys for their okra tomato cans (I can make a solid etouffe with extra frozen okra/and copious shrimp

And yes, I do go home on occasion to get the real deal, but this is more a question for folks that love to cook, but live far away from their roots

Also, the off topic lounge is much more enjoyable than the food board , so save that comment

I moved somewhere with great seafood, just with a different flair. I honestly don't miss it much but you can find most louisiana seasonings and stuff on Amazon these days

Texas has grocery stores, so I just go there and get the ingredients I need and make whatever dish I'm craving.

The biggest challenge for me (living in TX) is finding smoked sausage that makes my gumbo taste how I want it to taste. Also miss tasso for the same reasons.

I’ve got access to great seafood but the sausage game is for shite.

When I visit I bring back an assortment of sausages, pickled pork etc.Last time I brought back about 45 lbs.

I always bring back po boy bread too.

I buy sausage when I go home. You can make all of those dishes with items from any grocery store in the country plus good sausage.

People love to wax poetic about the food, and it’s good, but it can be made from anywhere in america well.

Why would you want to replicate Louisiana food? It sucks. It’s one of the reasons everyone’s so fat here.

I moved to MN and let me tell it's hard as hell to get good ingredients for Louisiana cooking.

I found one little grocery in the hood that sells good stuff.

Also some Asian markets will have LA products.

Otherwise I buy stuff online.

I've all but given up on good French bread though.

I can make a roux for a gumbo or a pot of red beans, etc. anywhere but the further I get from Louisiana, the harder it is to find good smoked sausage and those dishes just don't taste as good without it.

I do agree.
But with two starving boys and a family to feed, I get lazy when it comes to cooking so I look for paths of leaset resistance.

AND…
I cook constantly
No fast food (save vacation)

I'm north of DFW Airport and there's a local place that stocks up on gumbo crabs, Savoy's Tasso and Andouille, plus Leidenheimer bread. Got another business making crawfish, shrimp and oyster runs every week and I'm on their list to check with every week.

you have to have it shipped or have an ice chest carry on imo.

Sure, it "can" be made.

It's the effort of making it that is the main issue.
