What’s the board have for remedies that have worked? 8 year old Weimaraner who is very health and happy except that his back hips are getting worse by the day it seems. He can walk but he favors his front legs. Give him glucosamine the last week to try and help. Anyone have any experience with helping cure this ailment?

Fish oil daily gave mine another couple of good years. We were pretty amazed at how well it worked. She went from groaning every time she got up or laid down to spry and no groans at all within a week or two. We used the inexpensive human capsules from Costco. You'll have to prick the first few with a pin to make them leak, but once doggo learns there is a tasty treat inside they will chew them up themselves.

Fish oil on food and Cosequin glucosamine. The glucose takes a while. It's not an instant fix. Combo of those two did wonders for my 75lb dog. He acts five years younger.

Give the glucosamine a few weeks and it should make a difference. The supplement that helped my dog was high dose glucosamine, fish oils and maybe turmeric? (Among other things)
We tried a few different brands for our pup but the one that worked the best was the “Dr. Joseph's VetPro Complete Dog Hip and Joint Supplement”

There is a $135 shot per month that helps with that. Can’t think of the name of it but it’s magic for my 15 yo

How do you know that it's his hips? Are you sure that it's not his knees? If he's getting worse by the day, as you described, and placing more weight on his front limbs, he could have bilateral ACL tears.

I agree with the fish oil and glucosamine recommendations above. It can make a difference.
Good luck to you and your pup!

It is definitely hips. This has been an issue for him since he was a young pup. He has valley fever and his joints have never been very strong. He has had a great run for a few years but it seems like he is weaker the last few months.

Same. Was giving old border collie shots that helped a lot. Was expensive but was worth it for such a short time

Love that boy with everything you got.
As others have said, the monthly shot does wonders.
My Weim, my best buddy, decided to move on across the bridge a couple years ago.
I miss him every single day and will never not.

Hate to tell you this but bad hips young not a good sign…..any dog.
I know I’ll get downvotes but it’s the brutal truth.

What’s the deciding factor??
Healthy and happy dog who can’t move… do you get him a wheelchair for his back legs??? Or is it just a loving fair-well to the rainbow? He has a brother the same age. Would be a savage loss for the entire family. But if he can survive on his front paws and good humor for a few years it would be worth it

My boxer had hip dysplasia and we found out when she was 10. To help we did water and physical therapy and it worked well for 2 1/2 years and she started to become a little wobbly in the last year. The vet also gave us some pellets to put in her food for her joints.
