and that’s apparently a bad thing.

This is very, you know, it’s very white, this movie. You don’t see a lot of different ethnicities. We don’t talk about gender. None of that. And I feel like that really doesn’t represent our world today.”

Well, that movie didn't come out today.

Besides, if they made it today and included anyone of color, that person would have to be shown to have been wrongly given detention.

It was a story about different people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. There was no need to insert ethnicities and sexual preferences into it just for the sake of doing it.

In the remake she’ll be replaced by a black actor, considering she’s a ginger.

So she’s saying Bender should’ve been black?

Life in 1985 as a 10 year old was wonderful. I'm just going to stop there before I get banned.

Is this like when those 2 Jewish women who created and wrote Friends beat themselves up recently for failing to make half of the cast black?

Gender was discussed in that movie especially as it relates to her character and the bond her character made with Ally Sheedy’s.

What an ignorant comment.

I’d also like to remind her that over 80% of the movie going public was white when that movie came out. The studios made what the market actually wanted back then.

She was the worst part of that movie.

It takes place in a Midwest suburb. Of course it will be mostly white people.

It’s not a big deal.

That's probably why people still enjoy watching it 40 years later. People liked movies that didn't push political agendas down our throats.

Every movie doesn't have to address every social or political issue. Sometimes people want to go to a movie and sit back and relax and enjoy it.

Not to change the subject but on a related note if you are a Harry Potter fan the HBO remake just cast Snape with a black man

Everyone is livid because it is going to be very interesting when they show Snape as a young child being tormented by the marauders who are four white guys

Think that is racist enough?

oh just wait until the remake.

There will be a wrongfully punished black woman, a white trans kid, and no straight relationships to be seen

Molly is right about one thing...it's unusual to have detention at a public school with no black people.

The Chicago suburbs that the movie took place in were 95% white in 1984. What else did she expect?

Using those numbers, at least half of those in detention should have been black. Just sayin'

If the 1980s were "woke" nobody would've never heard of Molly Ringwald. It must be easy making her proclamations behind the backing of her ill-gotten (in her own mind) royalty checks.
