Things I have noticed after getting back to the gym after 10 years.

Had not been since 2014, when I had to quit weights due a herniated disc in my neck. It's like I stepped into a whole new reality.
1. Yoga pants and crop tops for women. Goodness gracious. I need to wear dark glasses. It's simply incredible. (Of course, a majority of the women wearing this apparel have no business in them. Stretchable fabrics are a privilege, not a right.)
2. Arab dudes and hispanics have discovered the benefits of physical fitness in huge numbers. Perhaps my gym is just extra ethnic, but I don't remember it being like this a decade ago. Not complaining about the latinas (see item 1).
3. People sit on machines and look at their phones more than they used to. They don't seem to be taking a break during reps. Just staring at their phones.
4. Yoga pants.

It's better at 5 AM. Hot chicks sleep in.

1. The yoga pants seem to be a requirement for all women and the higher the waistband the better it seems for them.
2. No problem seeing more people in the gym (enjoy seeing younger kids in the gym since working out is great for both physical and mental health), just please re-rack your weights and wipe down the bench afterwards.
3. Lollygagging has always been a thing for gym-goers, before phones there would be people engaging in conversation for 15+ minutes taking up a machine for the entirety of the conversation.

I don’t like to wear deodorant since it causes dementia and people used to complain about it at the gym but now that my gym embraced diversity nobody notices it anymore

Don't wear tight shorts.

It’s a sign of the times. Next thing you know there will be a prayer room and they’ll be forcing you to convert.

as the OP mentioned with the influx of Arab/Indian dudes hitting the gym these days. They must have the same policy on deodorant.

This had started before the pandemic, but the crossfit bros and classes really dominate.
Also, my gym has been invaded by pickleball mania.

UREC, is night and day from what it was when I was there originally from 04-08. Back then it was all unflattering, two sizes too big t-shirts.

Yoga pants are not for everyone.
My only current gym annoyance is people who wear tall socks because I think you just look silly, but I'm a millennial who loves ankle socks.

This drives me crazy. I’ve gotten to the point after a minute or so to just politely ask if they are done.

Only liberals and women wipe down the equipment

I've noticed a lot more women wearing booty shorts. No complaints from me

On top of this, I get fit college girls wearing booty shorts in my gym.

when the older men get on a machine, forget it...at least 15 minutes

This is a big fricking problem.
There is not a day that goes by where I don’t have to ask somebody if I can use the machine or the bench…. they are just sitting there with their nose buried in their phone, just scrolling away mindlessly.

The higher the waistband allows them to hold their gut in better. Basically spanks. They are just creating an illusion for you to notice them.
