LA Amendment Two set to be repackaged for voters, despite it being voted down

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - At the Baton Rouge Press Club, Rep. Julie Emerson and Rep. Jack McFarland announced plans to repackage Amendment Two from the March 29 election.
The proposal would be split among various amendments to give voters the option to approve singular changes to Article 7 of the state Constitution rather than many changes contained in one amendment.
Namely, collapsing two of the state’s savings accounts – the Budget Stabilization Fund and the Revenue Stabilization Fund. Doing so would shore up money into the general fund and give lawmakers more playing room with the budget.
”These are things we are hoping to do to keep Louisiana more competitive,” Emerson said.
Another item to bring back: allowing local governments to repeal the inventory tax placed on businesses. It’s all an effort to spur growth, doubling down on Governor Jeff Landry’s Louisiana Forward agenda.
”Some of you even told me, ‘I liked 90-95% of that bill and what was contained in that amendment, but there was just 5% or 10% I didn’t like,‘” Emerson said.
“The end goal is to eliminate your state income tax once and for all.”
”As you drop those rates on the corporate income tax and personal income tax side, it does help stimulate your economy,” Emerson said.
Since Amendment Two didn’t pass, lawmakers have a $198 million hole to fill if they want to avoid pay cuts for teachers and support staff.

On top of the funding needed for teacher pay, lawmakers are facing deficit of over $190 million this year. This means, once again, either more cuts or increased taxes are needed to make up the difference.

I think that is wise. Amendment 2 was way too many changes packaged into one amendment. That made it virtually incomprehensible to voters and allowed for bad actors to lie about what was in it because no lay person, frankly, could tell just what the f$&k it actually did.

Are they going to hold the next vote on a random Saturday in July?

Wish they would get rid of property taxes too.

Cannot see that ever happening but I would like to see a way that non property owners could be taxed since they enjoy the very same benefits as property owners pay for

When exactly? Put a firm date in the admendment effectively immediately upon its passage. Otherwise voters aren't supporting false promises. Hell you guys can't even vote to repeal those $10 a year inspection stickers, and you want us to really believe you will eliminate our income taxes?

I just have a feeling that even if voters vote that down, the politcians are going to find a way to grab that money anyway.

Exactly. Landry and company is Jindal 2.0. Raid the trust funds, the Office of Group benefits, etc.
No mention of budget cuts at all. Just spend, tax, and raid budget coffers. Liberal RINO'S not one fiscal conservative amongst them.

One would think that allocating money from these funds to stabilize the budget would be easy.

Yea because that’s makes so much more sense than not having to pay unconstitutional property tax. wtf

They pay rent. The landlord factors in property tax in the rent price.

They will do what MS did and pass legislation to do away with the State income tax when certain revenue “growth triggers” are met.
So, if those triggers are never met, you still get to pay income tax, and the governor can say he passed the bill to eliminate it

Saw that McMakin authored a bill that will phase out income tax by 0.2% per year and eliminated by 2040. Called the Banish All Nonproductivity to Delete Income Tax Act" or "BANDIT Act".

A feeling? There is a bill filed to do that already!

Based on the bill title, "Banish All Nonproductivity to Delete Income Tax Act", he's just trolling his fellow legislators.

While we're at it, just get rid of all taxes and disband the state government.
