Im not in mensa yet. But me and my buds are convinced that the goverment wants us to all stay skinny. Reason being that if every human on the planet gained 10 lbs at the same time it would be enough to change the trajectery of our orbit and posibly even throw us into the sun. Or maybe even so far away we would freeze. Thus, why the goverment always pushed for healthy eating ads and what not!

I think the Earth is getting bigger because, As we build cities, we keep finding other cities underneath

Earth accumulates dust and small particles such as meteorites from space but the amount is small compared to its overall mass.

Dude. You've posted some ignorant shite. I wouldn't cast stones if I were you.

You want to believe that because I make fun of you. Tell yourself whatever you must to cope with being picked on by a stranger on a message board.

Law of Conservation of Mass?*

*Assumes the Earth is a closed system, which it is for matter but not energy...correct?

Mass and energy are equivalent.

E=mc^2

Open Systems

An open system is one that exchanges both matter and energy with its surroundings. Think of a boiling pot of water on a stove. Heat energy from the stove enters the pot, and water vapor (matter) exits. Living organisms are also classic examples of open systems. They take in nutrients (matter) and release waste, while also taking in and releasing heat. The defining characteristic of an open system is the ability to exchange both mass and energy with the environment.

Closed Systems

A closed system is a system that exchanges energy with its surroundings but does not exchange matter. A sealed container with hot coffee is a close approximation of this. Heat may slowly escape from the container, but no coffee (matter) is exchanged with the surrounding environment. Note that perfectly closed systems are incredibly difficult to construct in reality and are mostly theoretical ideas.

quote:

When considering matter, Earth is a close approximation of a closed system. For all practical purposes, the amount of matter within Earth’s system remains relatively constant.

quote:

In contrast to matter, Earth is undeniably an open system regarding energy.

quote:

While Earth is practically a closed system in terms of matter, with negligible exchange of physical materials with space, it is definitively an open system when considering energy.

Nobody wants to talk about the real problem with overpopulation.

Earth will get too heavy and fall out of the solar system.

Its a pet peeve of mine when people don't look shite up before they get into a discussion.

quote:

The Earth gains about 40,000 tonnes of mass each year from space dust, but it also loses around 50,000 tonnes, mainly due to escaping gases like hydrogen. Overall, this means the Earth is getting lighter each year.

That's from google assist..

This is like when I pee outside. I get lighter but Earth gets heavier.

Do we pee out the exact amount we consume drinking?
