We’re throwing away our diplomacy, giving China an opportunity, and hurting our consumers?

While being provided with false numbers by the administration? And soon we’re gonna be paying for the privilege? This is going to be like hiking taxes, but pissing the world off while doing it.
Y’all can downvote all you want, but this is Trumps one BIG mistake. It pisses me off because it’s going to frick up all the good.

Boy, how many times have we heard that only for it to be proven false in due time?

There's about 10 other active threads where you could've posted this. There's literally a thread on the board RIGHT NOW asking for posts just like this in order to de-clutter the board and get it all in one place, because people keep making threads just like yours

Yes, freeloaders tend to get angry when you turn the money spigot off.

Its not a mistake. Its a long term plan, but you only see the short term. This is how we keep America an economic power house. Nations have used tariffs for centuries, but because Trump does it, yall all cry wolf.

Just say you like Globalism and you enjoy USA subsidizing the world while going into 37 trillion in debt.
China can’t afford 54% USA tariff. This will cripple their economy

I disagree. Trump is leveraging Americas strength, our market. Why are so many fearful of doing something different??? We got off track 75ish years ago when we allowed China into the WTO. Since then, multinational corporations have spent untold billions lobbying DC to send our manufacturing over seas where labor cost are 1/4 or less than here. It has profited those corporations but devastated middle class Americans and America's security.
We now depend on our enemies and critics for many of our basic needs.

Lol I’m more scared at the numbers running from Biden admin. You also were never concerned about his numbers being “good” at their control when you know damn well Biden had major inflation

You think consumers were do well before?

Why should we continue to let other nations treat us unfairly in trade?

How so? How were middle class Americans "devastated" by having less expensive items to purchase?
Keep in mind, we import stuff from China that impacts the cost of manufacturing that we do still have here, it affects the cost of construction, which affects home prices.
Everyone moaning incessantly about China should be disqualified if they have EVER complained about home prices here or anywhere else, because without the heavy machinery and raw materials we import from China (and elsewhere) at the prices we are able to get them at, home prices would have gotten a whole lot more expensive than they are even now.
The bottom line is that y'all literally don't know what you're talking about. You're just repeating crap you've heard or read.

That's a problem, but do you understand that it's a problem specifically because our economy and standard of living has outpaced everyone else's?
Our factory workers make (depending on who is giving the numbers) somewhere between 3 and 4 times what they make in China (as you acknowledged).
That sounds like a lot, but we're still only talking about between $17 and $24 an hour.
A million or even 20 million $20 an hour jobs are not going to revolutionize the American economy, but you know what would? If everything from cars and houses to food and daily use items went up by 20%.
That would revolutionize the hell out of it. Downward.
Really the only solution that I can see is to identify items that really are crucial to national security and contract with domestic manufacturers through government contracts to make sure we produce those items here. Issue subsidies or tax breaks or something to ensure we have a supply.
That would have a far less harmful effect on the economy.
Turns out, though, this fantasy about retreating back into 'Muh 'Merca and pulling up the ladder is just that. It's a fantasy. It's a fantasy when it's applied to military intervention and it's a fantasy when it's applied to trade.

What if it was less harmful to "let other nations treat us unfairly in trade" than it would be to impose tariffs so that we could be like them?
I'm not necessarily saying that would be the case, I'm matching the quality of the question with another question.
What if we all agreed that that was the case? Impose the tariffs anyway, because 'Muh Fairness, or do what was in the best economic interest of the country?
