Why are steaks in grocery stores so massive?

We have a local butcher who we usually get our meat from. Cuts whatever size we need so we usually get 6 oz filets or 10 oz strips. Maybe a little bigger depending on what we are feeling. Based on just what I see at restaurants these seem to be in line generally with what is served there.
I went to the grocery store out of town a while ago and needed to get some strip steaks. They were almost 2” thick and massive. I’m talking like 20+ oz for each steak. The filets were also just massive. Probably 12+ oz each.
After that I started paying attention to the steaks in our local grocery store and they were just as big.
Why? I hate to cut them in half but who is eating 20+ oz strips?? Seems insane people eat them that big unless they are cutting them down at home.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard this complaint before. Congrats. Not many things haven’t been discussed here.

This is not a real problem. It's something you made up.

So are yall not seeing 20+ oz steaks at your grocery stores or are the fat asses here acting like that’s a normal portion for steak?

A 20oz strip is not for a fatass. It’s for lean gainz bro.

I go to a lot of grocery stores and do a ton of cooking. I have never seen this huge steak phenomenon you're blabbing about.

No, I bought a prime strip last night that was around 14 oz. It was one of the biggest in the case but also the prettiest.

Why? You seen the obesity rates?

6-10 oz for filets
14-16 oz of ribeyes (not bone in obviously)
12-14 oz for New York strip
That’s what I typically see at Rouse’s and Alexander’s and Ralph’s.
Where are you buying 20+ oz strip steaks? The only time I’ve seen steaks this sized are specially cut at butchers or a tomahawk ribeye

Interesting. Granted I have only started recently looking for this. It’s just been in the last two grocery stores I’ve been in the past few weeks.
