First movie from each franchise, which was the one that you saw and thought, “Damn, that’s a good concept.”?

quote:

Release Year - Movie Title
1995 - Toy Story
1998- A Bug's Life
1999- Toy Story 2
2001- Monsters, Inc.
2003 - Finding Nemo
2004 - The Incredibles
2006 - Cars
2007 - Ratatouille
2008 - WALL-E
2009 - Up

Just to see the run they were on for 15 years. 2010 was Toy Story 3.

Toy Story or Monsters, Inc.?

I mean both took these mundane things in the real world, and turned them into magical adventures.

Out of all the pixar films, these two probably stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of concept, and picking between the two is impossible.

I think Monster's, Inc. is probably more impressive and unique - screams as power, but monsters as a whole society, then turning it to laughter - it's just super cool.

Toy Story took something we all believed as kids - our toys were real, and made that real. Monsters Inc., took something we all believed - and made a whole convincing world out of it. So... I guess the Monster's win for concept.

But I'll add, Cars sucks. And the concept was stupid. And the world makes no sense whatsoever. It's completely ridiculous and insane next to the other two.

Playing with toys and imaging them coming to life after we walk out of the room isn't exactly new, but TS did it so very well.

Scream as a power source is solid. But then flipping it to laughter plays into the ' Dying is easy, comedy is hard' adage which was a great choice with Billy Crystal on board.

Toy Story wowed the entire world when that movie came out. Pixar wasn’t a surprise anymore once monsters was released

What does that have to do with the question? Which was the more original concept?

To me it's Monster's Inc. by a mile. What is original about toys coming alive when you're not around? The universe they built for Monster's Inc. is exponentially more original.

Toy Story is the goat but I think give me WALL-E as far as original concept. Monsters Inc probably over it as well.

Like it's already been mentioned, seeing toys come to life on screen was pretty incredible but it's not exactly an original idea. It was cool because every kid who has ever lived played that out in their mind.

The question isn't which movie wowed people the most

Toy Story.

Monsters Inc was already done in Little Monsters.

Well Monsters, Inc. was almost a direct ripoff of Little Monsters, so by definition Toy Story would be the "more original concept."

Both are excellent films though. And I like Monsters better (though TS3 trumps all entries for both titles).

Ranking Pixar movies, A Bug’s Life is absolutely in the bottom 25%.

Sandwiched between TS1 and 2 it looks even worse.

Rewatched it with my son and it’s a lot of meh.

Is that what all my downvotes are for?

I'll happily take them. Cars is a dumb movie. The world has no logical center to it. It's a ridiculous concept.

Nice animated adaption of Seven Samurai (which was a masterpiece). 28 Pixar films so it'd have to be in the bottom 7 to be where you have it.

Elemental, Lightyear, Turning Red, Luca, Soul, Onward, Incredibles 2, Cars 2 and 3, Finding Dory, Brave, and The Good Dinosaur are for sure worse than A Bugs Life. Others could obviously be argued.

Monsters, Inc.

The Incredibles is my favorite Pixar flick, and one of my favorite films ever.

Just so damned perfect.
