So my daughter is on San Juan Island in between Seattle and Vancouver. Before she left we had to get her a new key for her car and just had local guy come by and make a new one as the previous one was lost. She had been driving it for 8 months or so and now it will not crank. She had a local look at it and he said she would have to go to the Ford dealer (not on island) and have them make her a new one to the tune of $400. Why would it work for so long and then just crap out? She is getting a lock sign on her dash when she tries to crank.

Gotta be the security chip in the key.

Maybe she is putting the key in the wrong hole when she cranks it?!

tell her to flip the key around a few times. i got a buddy with an mustang that has the same issues and he has to rotate the key around 180 until anti theft light goes away.

How do you expect us to be able to help your daughter with her car key issues without pics? It's impossible to know how to go about fixing this without seeing pics of her first.

Some cars have a spot in the bottom of the glove box where you sit the key to reset it.

The info will be in the owner's manual if it has that feature.

Isn't between Seattle and Toronto basically all of Canada?

Over 2,000 miles between Seattle and Toronto.

How much did he charge to come out on the service call?

Local guy you used to make key used Amazon parts and key fob chip crapped out. Being cheap didn’t pay off.
