The Office turns 20 today. That's what she said.

On March 24, 2005, NBC aired the first episode of The Office, an American remake of the universally acclaimed, Golden Globe-winning BBC comedy of the same name. The premiere, a mockumentary that introduced the staff of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company’s branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania, pulled in a decent-sized audience that night. It drew 11.2 million viewers following an episode of The Apprentice — but even with that start, expectations for the show were not high.

Interesting read, not as boring as I thought it would be. The key imo was getting Scotts character right.
Season 1 writers

Greg Daniels, Mindy Kaling, Paul Lieberstein, B.J. Novak and Michael Schur.
Greg Daniels also co-created King of the Hill with Mike Judge

Oops, a day late.

Season 1 was nearly a carbon copy of the UK version but I've always wondered how much influence per season Mindy Kaling had on the show since how did she push out the turd "Velma?"

I’ve often wondered how they wrote so good with Kaliningrad there too. My guess is there was a lot of “that’s a great idea, Mindy. Maybe we can write that in to the next episode.”

First one I watched was Dinner Party (S4E13) when it aired on NBC. I had heard the show was good but had never seen it, and had only a slight idea of some characters due to pop culture. And even then I still thought it was hilarious.
I believe that was a Thursday night. I went to Best Buy the next day and bought the first three seasons on DVD and binged them all over the weekend. Then IIRC I caught up on the first 12 episodes on nbc.com after that. So by the following Thursday I was literally caught up. Never missed another episode from then on.
What's funny is it isn't in my top 5 or maybe even 10 shows of all time (definitely top 20 if I had to make a list), but it's the one I've seen the most (I've probably seen most of the episodes 10-15 times at least at this point). It's on our TV at home randomly various times every week. It's a great show to just have on in the background. When my son was 2-3 he would always call the show "Michael."

I always kinda assumed BJ Novak maybe kept her in check since they were dating around the early parts of the show I believe.
She's not a bad writer though. Sex Lives of College Girls is a decent show. Never seen Velma though.
Per her Wiki she's only credited as a writer for one episode in S1 (#6: Hot Girl). And only 8 episodes in the first four seasons...22 episodes in the whole run of the show. I'm sure she contributed to other episodes, but those are the only ones she's credited on apparently.

First four seasons are great.
It started falling off whenever the Michael Scott Paper Company storyline with Idris Elba pops up. Not saying there weren’t funny episodes but it seemed like from that point onwards the writing was throwing everything at the wall to see what stuck.

they stole that from the Three Stooges

Michael mentions the 3 Stooges in the very first episode and him ripping them off would be very on brand for the character

She also wrote Running Point on Netflix, only seen the first two episodes but they were funny

You could always tell BJ was a writer. He wrote close to 10 episodes that had him as the lead. It was painfully obvious

First four seasons are fantastic. 5-7 are solid with some great episodes sprinkled in. Once Michael leaves it takes a major nosedive.
I've probably watched seasons 1-4 more times than any other show. Very easy to put on an episode and knock out a few. Even as background noise.
