“The Alto Knights,” a crime thriller starring dueling Robert De Niros, made moviegoers an offer they easily refused.

The Warner Bros. film was D.O.A. over the weekend with $3.2 million at the domestic box office, one of the worst-ever starts for a major studio release. “The Alto Knights” also cratered overseas, earning $1.8 million for a bleak worldwide tally of $5.1 million. With a price tag above $45 million before marketing is taken into account, “The Alto Knights” is already one of the year’s biggest misfires.

There was zero advertising for this. Its no surprise that it failed. There was a Looney Tunes movie that came out last week that also failed for the same reason. Don't know why any studio would bother releasing a movie with no advertising. Just drop it on streaming.

I've seen plenty of ads for Alto Knights. I was hoping it would do a decent business since i like these type films. Black Bag too. Of course, i'm too lazy to buy a ticket.

The Looney Tunes movie was pulled from the schedule by WB and subsequently picked up by a very tiny distributor, Ketchup Entertainment. They don't have the funds to advertise on major networks. They picked up the film for close to nothing hoping they would make it back at the theater, make some extra on vod, and continue profiting on its streaming rights going forward. They're supposedly trying to buy the Roadrunner/Coyote animation/live action hybrid film with Jon Cena and Will Forte that WB also canceled.

Alto Knights is also a WB project, but it wasn't canceled and sold off. This is a project CEO Zaslav personally greenlit for his buddies. He probably realized after the production completed that he shouldn't throw more good money out for bad. WB is canceling/shelving films that might have a chance at making money while also handing out excessive money to friends to film non-commercial stinkers.

It's like he's had 2 episodes to his life. The young actor who made his mark in cinema with great roles and earning the respect of his fellow actors and audiences alike.

Now, he's an old crotchety bastard who thinks the world should give a shite what he thinks-------and they don't, and he can't handle it.

Two different ways in this movie. How could that go wrong?

I only heard of this movie today. I was on Prytania and saw it's the show playing at the Prytania.
I hasn't heard of it and didn't bother looking it up.
I have not seen one trailer.
