CNBC

South Korean conglomerate Hyundai will announce a $20 billion investment in U.S. onshoring.

The investment is expected to be announced Monday at the White House by President Donald Trump, Hyundai Chairman Euisun Chung and Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry.

A new steel plant in Louisiana, which is part of the investment, is set to hire roughly 1,500 employees and will produce next-generation steel that will be used by Hyundai’s two U.S. auto plants to manufacture electric vehicles.

Sounds like good news....I'm just not sure about the demand for electric vehicles unless the selling prices come way down along with their battery replacement costs.

This is great news for south Louisiana. To date, I don't think there are any automotive related production in south Louisiana beyond the Ferrerra Fire truck company.

There's actually been some success for non-Tesla EV's lately. A lot of that is for political reasons and Elon Musk fighting the waste and fraud that progressives apparently want to retain.

Definitely a question if it's worth the investment at risk, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm hoping this Louisiana plant is successful. I'll definitely be more of a Hyundai fan than I am now - the two Ioniq cars are pretty cool already.

I imagine they can use the mill for non-EV cars right?

I hope they invest a few million to solve the oil burning problem of their GDI technology engines.

I think around November the rumors started dropping. I guess it's official now, and they are applying for permits and what not.
