I'm not one to find offense often, but that tweet seems messed up. The kid clearly spoke in proper English by saying "He did pay us the money."

Glad they get paid, high level college sports have been "professional" for the past 30 years. And as Rick Barnes put it a few weeks ago, it goes both ways.

He clearly says “do” not “did”.

Weird, I thought the university didn't have direct involvement in NIL payments?

Why should universities have to fund this?
Might as well disassociate all athletics from all universities.
Let them become minor leagues.
Call them the Maryland Turtles without university backing and see how it all turns out financially.
It will be like the WNBA

Because they make money off of it. Isn't every SEC/Big 10 school cashing $70mil tv revenue checks a year?

Was he lying?
I think that dude played with Copper Flag in HS.

They should stop paying whenever we end the multibillion dollar TV deals, coaches no longer get guaranteed multimillion dollar contracts, and games become free to attend

Well, I guess I am not sure it is clear anymore if you are saying it is definitely "do". When I listen to it, I hear the "d" to finish the word.

Exactly. I got downvoted to Bolivian by the virtue signalers and race baiters when I posted that, prior to NIL, the student athletes were over-compensated. And, it's true. (But, but "you hate capitalism! It's unfair these white coaches make millions and the players get nothing!!!") The fact is, there is no market for football and basketball players fresh out of high school outside the university - read, "NCAA - system. None. Fans and TV viewers aren't tuning in to see Billy Joe Jumpshooter or Shawntavious Edgerusher. They're buying tickets and turning on the game to watch Auburn beat UGA or Duke to take on the Heels. If there was a market for these kids, some rich entrepreneurs would have exploited this hole in the market and started professional leagues for the players.
Everyone who was pushing pay-for-play and NIL had one goal in mind - the destruction of collegiate athletics. Judging by how many useful idiot posters on this site supporting it, they'll get what they want.

False. I listened to it multiple times.
I clearly heard “he did pay us the money”

College athletics and their prohibition of earning revenue was entirely antithetical to the American system of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They were openly restricting the wage earning ability of student athletes simply because they played a sport.
If a chemistry student happened to have a YouTube channel or Instagram page that was immensely popular they could monetize it while continuing to study chemistry and participate in all extracurricular activities barring they were not on academic scholarship.
Where the NCAA fricked up is not enforcing the single rule they claimed to have “ No pay for play”. How did they legally allow collectives associated with universities to come about? That’s the real downfall of this entire thing.
Athletes should be able to profit off of NIL, that’s not what we have because the NCAA kicked the can down the road until it was no longer their decision to make.
