I only found one guy in the country better than that who's got zero Ks in 54 plate appearances at Central Connecticut. That's incredible

Probably helps that he's very short (for a baseball player) and I'm assuming that it's difficult to throw strikes consistently to someone who's 6'4 and then have to change it up and try and get milam out.

That really is incredible. Especially when in 95 at bats, you gotta figure there are going to be a few where the ump calls a third strike that’s out of the zone.

He's only walked 13 times, so it's not like pitchers are unable to throw strikes to him.

Wow he is not a three true outcomes kind of hitter, I guess.

The only guy in the same ballpark, IMO, is Justin DeCriscio at NC State. Stats are similar and he plays in a decent baseball conference. But he is a senior and Milam is a sophomore, which makes it that much more impressive.

Stat Lines

Steven Milam in 22 games played(22 starts) had 95 PA, 79 AB, 23 R, 29 H, 6 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR, 24 RBI, 52 TB, .658 SLG%, 13 BB, 0 HBP, 2 K, 1 GDP, .442 OB%, 3 SF, 0 SH, 1 - 1 SB-ATT, 3.591 AB/GP

Justin DeCriscio in 18 games played(17 starts) had 73 PA, 57 AB, 18 R, 18 H, 6 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 32 TB, .561 SLG%, 8 BB, 6 HBP, 2 K, 4 GDP, .438 OB%, 2 SF, 0 SH, 2-2 SB-ATT, 3.167 AB/GP

He still has one and it’s the same percentage as everyone else

This definitely has nothing to do with it. He's just elite at putting bat to ball. He has about as many walks as some of the leaders on the team have (outside of Curiel who has an obscene 23 walks), but he never gets hit by pitch so his OBP is actually on the lower end of many of the starters. He only got hit 4 times all last season which was lowest among the starters outside of Milazzo (2) who saw like half the plate appearances as Milam did.

He typically hits behind Pearson or Dickinson neither of which are remotely tall guys. Hes hit behind Frey a few times I think but not a ton.

He just puts the ball in play, a lot.
