we have all seen the graphs of 100% increase in nonteaching staff to take care of the Rules issued by DOE.

I would like to see non-union teachers and admin comment on the improvement/ draw backs of doing away the doe.

Something has to be done to improve the failing reading/writing/arithmetic/science capabilities.

Do not make this a funding discussion

I'm not sure I've met a teacher dialed in enough to know how DOE effects their day to day and i'm married to one

What percent funding comes from the federal government to the states?

The funding will still go to the states.
The federal bureaucracy will be dead, however.

I estimate a shite load of burdensome federal rules will be lifted such as 504, etc.

Funding wont stop (block grants). Its just the warped directives will end, and thus force states/locals to be more accountable to parents/community

FWIW, the male 30 year veteran Katy School District high school that I asked was very against it. That said, he’s a self-avowed Democrat.

That’s the only data point that I have.

The Dept of Ed has the fewest employees of any cabinet level dept. In 2024 it had the same number of employees (4,209) as it did in 2009, currently it has half that.

The annual cost of the Dept varies since the cost is partially off set by student loan payments, Some areas will be hit harder than others.

The school breakfast and lunch programs wouldn't be affected since they are run by the US Dept. of Agriculture.

All it was doing was funding the liberal teacher’s unions. Teachers should not be members of these unions.

This will lead to school choice. Which is a good thing.

We need people that want to improve it.

Right now we have mostly people that want an easy job.

DOE is a start, but the states are rotten to the core also.

Each system has a person that ensures compliance with fed regs to ensure they get their fed gov cheddar and that money only accounts for a small percentage of their income. The rest comes from local sales and property taxes. Unfortunately what locals want is completely discarded in favor of ensuring compliance with DOE. So just give schools the money and be done with it. The communities that want good schools will elect good board members and they’ll have good schools. The ones that don’t will have shitty schools.
