Got a new fridge. Finally time to replace the filter. The new filter is half the size on the new fridge despite being a similar model to what was replaced (the interior is almost exactly the same). Bought a 3rd party cheap filter like I always do because the GE ones are overpriced. Put it in. Error.

Apparently the new fridges have a fricking chip in them to see if you’re using a name brand filter. I did find an off brand that works but it’s $40 instead of $50. So barely a savings.

It is infuriating how much money is being sucked out of us at every turn. I will probably just never change this filter again. I classify this under the new subscription model that almost everything is pushing us to. I wouldn’t be shocked to hear there are WiFi fridges that do charge monthly or else they disable.

Rant over.

What price do you put in your family’s health. I would never trust an off brand filter. That’s like playing a slow motion version of Russian roulette.

I'm pro-filter.

I'm in Shreveport and our water is so shitty, our filter will clog before it expires. The filter at least makes it drinkable.

Would make it more interesting if you could watch the hammer slowly drop and the bullet progress through the barrel.

I forget which brand it was, but I tried ordering ink for a printer and I had to buy it from the manufacturer and it required some sort of subscription. I bought a new printer.

I hate that filter shite.

Another one that gets me is all the tack on fees for any entertainment event. You have to buy that ticket 2.5 times over just to get in and buy concessions that are 4x what they cost otherwise

Do you think GE makes that filter or just puts their name on it? They don't even make appliances anymore, they sold that business to the Chinese.

I knew that I didn't want to frick around with an inkjet printer so I went with a Brother laser printer. Toner will last me about a year and a half and the Amazon replacements are around $20.

The light on mine went from green to orange. I made a mental note of it to handle up on it the next time I was in Home Depot or Lowes. A couple days later it went back to green. It's been green for 8 months now. There's definitely a fricked up chip and I'll likely sell the house before I replace the filter.

Doing a short three year stint in Shreveport now; insane how bad the water is. My fridge filter also clogged up and just recently replaced it. Will be back in BR in less than a year and a half.

How about a $500 registration fee at a private high school...every year. What the hell is that money for?

Did you try using it without a filter? Lots of the new ones just bypass and work fine if there's no filter installed, but they obvs don't volunteer that info.

Seems like the "improvement" most "business geniuses" bring is how to drastically reduce good jobs that help the overall economy and just pay a few extra teams of business school grads to think tank ways to further nickel and dime their customers.

Same, I drink BR tap water and it’s great.

What’s wrong with an “expired” filter anyway? Unless it gets clogged, wouldn’t it still filter the bad stuff out?
