Adolescence on Netflix is a tough watch, but very well done.

I have always thought Stephen Graham was a great character actor, but he is incredible in this role. It’s a one take that he and a guy named Barantini teamed up on. The show is tough to watch as a parent as it deals with the effects of social media on young people in today’s society. It’s very well done, and I hope to see more from Graham going forward.

I watched the first episode and didnt like how they told us who done it so soon. Is it worthwhile finishing the rest of the show?

Yes. It's not a mystery. It was really well done and really hard to watch as the father of a child almost that same age. That third episode especially.

Read the synopsis
Another "incel bad" thing
Will probably still watch, but just so tired of seeing the same preachy messaging
Hope it isn't what I am thinking

Show is excellent and Stephen Graham was exceptional.
The show isn’t saying incel is bad. It is more of a treatise on how kids don’t know what these terms really are and use them to bully. Then the seemingly crushing wave of social media piles on the victim of the bullying where they seek refuge on “support “ groups that are just angry people who have experienced bullying themselves. Feeding off of hate and hopelessness. It isn’t support but confirmation that one should be angry.
Show does an excellent job job of working through it.
First episode: seems cut and dry
Second episode: nuanced and more going on that appears and the school lifts the veil
Third: holy shite, the internal battle of how parents raised the kid and the values that are their conflicting with what the world he knows has made him
Fourth: parents blaming and trying to understand until their other older child breaks through to them and to give more would spoil.

Only halfway through but the camera work is revolutionary.
Like Citizen Kane level revolutionary.
One take start to finish. I have no idea how they achieved some of the movements and transitions (like Steadicam to drone).
And the acting, given the actors cannot mess up lines or flub the blocking AND its mostly children... i have experience with production and i have no idea how they did this.
Simply in awe of this achievement. Give it every award available.

It's impressive technically but man it makes the show drag. Watching all ten fingerprints was like watching paint dry. Maybe my attention span just sucks.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would going in. The writing was excellent. Kid was actually believable as a 13 year old, and didn't act like a supervillain in a boy's body, and the last episode was brutal.
Very well done, but I do wish they'd have gone into more depth about "inceldom", try to determine why it's catching on, what conditions exist that fuel it, etc. instead of treating it like a natural born psychopathy. If it's remotely the issue Hollywood tries to treat it as, there's clearly a driving force behind it.

I don't even know how to feel after watching this. I'm hurt. Lol

I'm almost distracted by it. I'm only 22 minutes in and I can't stop thinking about all that has to go right. Imagine getting 45 minutes in and having to start completely over.
