Gov. Jeff Landry on Tuesday said he is readying an executive order that would require state employees who work remotely to return to the office.
Landry briefly mentioned the plan at the Tchefuncta Country Club during a keynote address to the PAC that supports the St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce.
"I've been pushing my cabinet secretaries to make sure that our people are going back to work,” he said. “And I can tell you in the next 30 days or so, we're going to sign an executive order telling everybody, ‘It's time to get back to work.’”
The room erupted in applause in response to the remark.
Landry didn’t elaborate on details of the planned executive order and did not respond to a request for comment through a spokesperson Tuesday.

The boomer fetish of asses in cubicles to sit at a computer all day never ceases to amaze me.
If you aren't doing your job, whether in the office or at home, then you're fired. Simple as that. Why all the performance. If people are productive at home, let them be there and have more time with their family, and keep the roads clear of traffic for me.

There was a time when I sat in an office with another group, absolutely no one from my team worked near me. But I had to drive 30 minutes to sit there and do Zoom calls all day. I had to badge in, but not badge out. Some days I left after an hour or so and went home. No one ever knew.

They've already been working in the office at least three days a week. Another dumb announcement from our next one-term governor.

Your LDS is duly noted.

Great way to increase traffic in Baton Rouge by 10% overnight.
Look, if you are not managing anyone and all your work is done on a computer, don't get on the road. If you aren't doing your work at home you get fired.

People who work remotely do many things they don't do if in an office....mow grass, go grocery shopping, doctors appts etc. I think a person working from home should offer to take a cut in pay, if they are so hell bent on it, they don't have to commute to work, use gas, take as long to get ready etc.
No reason they should be paid the same staying home. And all employees who don't do their job at work or at home should lose their job.

Sure there are a handful of jobs that can be successfully done remotely. That’s why we’ve shipped so many of them overseas. However, a typical job is not as productive when you are at your house. There is no way of convincing me otherwise. Plus, you cannot set a culture properly when you have people spread out all over there country.

If recognizing Landry for the phony performance he is means you have
LDS, I don’t see the problem.

Or maybe there are things called performance reviews and deliverables that maybe a supervisor could use to determine if an employee is doing their job duties. If they aren't, fire them.

Certain overall benefits should be adjusted depending on in office or remote. I've done both successfully and while I'd like to not have to drive the causeway everyday, i would not want to work from home with my present situation. Collaborate in person is important for what I do. But don't offer me the same package as someone that works from home, i'll incur more costs and shluld be compensated more vs. a remote worker.

this is my issue...and that most people take advantage when no bosses are around. IDK what the average commute is but mine is an hour a day, which is pretty short compared to most of my co workers. Add that hour and another hour to get ready in the morning and to do 8 hrs in an office it takes up 10 hrs of my day for me...I get ready quick in the morning so I think that is a conservative amount of time each day going into the office.

I wonder if you get an email or a call after hours regarding work if you can ignore it now since you cannot work from home?

Why would you take a cut in pay if you're producing the same work?
That doesn't make sense.
Most of you guys on this board don't seem to understand the basic fact that you ultimately only bring value if you're producing something of value.
Sitting on your behind in an office does not make you produce anything in value just because you're in an office.
Granted, there are certain functions you can only perform on premise. For example, if you're a security guard, work in a warehouse, do construction work, rack servers, line out network cable, then obviously you have to do those on-site.
But for certain work like software development or devops engineer or technical support engineer for example, there is no advantage for doing these functions usually in an office. In fact, there are many disadvantages to an employer if you're developing software in an office vs at home or in a private office.
Why come into the office when you can produce the same amount of work from home?

Good thing I'm paid as a contractor and not a state worker.
I take this to mean we (contractors) finna eat.

See this is the weird anti freedom stuff to me. As a manager, I don't care if someone productive on my team is efficient and finishes a task early. If the works getting done, clients are happy, let them be efficient in home tasks as well.
Studies show humans are productive 4-6 hours a day at most, why continue this farce?
Posted on 3/12/25 at 1:18 pm to Major Dutch Schaefer
The majority of state workers are fat arse black women that are just collecting checks. These are the ones that are not producing at home OR at work and it’s virtually impossible to fire them.

Why not today? Ink pen ran out of ink. Should have been the first day he was in office.

That's idiotic.
if you were hired to come into an office setting at a certain wage why would you think staying at home should be compensated the same? are you really that stupid not to see the person going into the office has to spend more time and money to do their job?

Really?? Equal productivity wouldn't be a reason??
I'd say no reason someone should be paid more to take their Zoom meetings in an office vs. their home office
