Fortunately, we really haven’t needed one yet. I know Guidry played the role some last year, but personally, I do not have faith in him. I kinda like the idea of Eyanson moving there with his velocity and that breaking ball, but he struggles to get going.
Who ya got?

I think Casan Evans is our guy moving forward.

I mean Casan Evans has gone 9 innings, all late game situations, allowed 5 base runners, 0 runs, and struck out 16. 3/3 in save situations.

Think he qualifies for now.

Dorsey was on the Stopper of the Year watch list last year at South Florida, so he can do that job too.

It'll either be Casan Evans or Gavin Guidry

Rizy has the potential but is probably a year away

Closer, as an independent role, has long been devalued in baseball

LSU has 5-6 guys that will earn saves and most of the guys can pitch multiple innings, except for maybe Guidry

So, you want a starter to move to a closer role?

Hard to move a pretty solid starter to the closer role. I mean in regionals and supers they will say use the game one starter to close a game from time to time. Not generally a normal thing. Have you not watched Cassan evans pitch? Like others say Dorsey has a shot Guidry can get you 3 outs to end a game most of the time. I think this team has more options to close a game than any other I can remember at this very moment. Eyanson pitched lights out Saturday for 6 innings he wasn’t great in first inning but got straight. Be crazy to put him in the pen. Others are showing to be erratic just like last year. Mayers is good but will get wild Rizy too. Stuff is there control is not there all the time.

So your solution is to take our current Saturday starter, devalue his role and make him a closer?

I didn't even also mention that it has typically taken Eyanson an inning or two to settle in and be dominant.

still scarred over that UNC/LSU game last year where Jump came in in the 9th to close out the game to send us to a home super regional and we blew it

Bad combination if I do say so myself

* I think he's going to be a very reliable starter for us this year, not hating.

I mean Evans is about as much of a closer as it gets.
