I still hold out hope for Flagg or Harper but if we end up picking 5-7 instead of 1-3 I really wouldn’t mind taking this kid. He won’t ever be a star but he is about as a sure thing as it gets in this draft from what I see. He’s the heart of that Duke team with 3 top 10 picks in their starting lineup. His energy and toughness on defense and his smooth 3 point shot is something we badly need. He could be a solid starting player or a great 6th man type.

hes a nice player but if we end up picking a prospect like knueppel in this draft after this horrendous year, id be very disappointed

I don’t see him being an impact player in the NBA.

This is fair. He could be a solid rotational player/starter. Probably needs to be in a system that features his strengths.

At some point we do have to consider positional fit and who highlights our current talent. With Murray out and McCollum expiring (plus not a lead guard) we have a massive hole at PG. We really need to draft someone at that spot.

I wouldn’t take him in the fist round. He’s a good college player. He’ll do next to nothing in the nba. He’s slow, unathletic, and doesn’t even have that super quick release on his shot to make up for it.

Same. He’s a high floor, safe pick guy. I’d rather take a swing on a guy that might end up being a bust but has a ton of potential.

If we fall out the top 4, I’m looking to draft Kasparas Jakuncionis, Tre Johnson, or Khaman Maluach.

I’m swinging for the fences, hitting a home run is the only thing that could save this franchise. Hitting a single or a double like Knueppel doesn’t move the needle for this team

I disagree, he’s a terrific playmaker with incredible body control who scores at ease around the basket. . I don’t see any reason he can’t be a significantly better passing Luke Kennard (and I disagree about the quick release). But he does have serious athleticism concerns, will be a liability on D, and I would definitely not spend a lottery pick on him.

To use a baseball analogy: a team this desperate needs to swing for the fence, not try to bunt

Coop, Bailey, Harper, and then TJ and Vj battling for 4. I do NOT want Malauch. He’s way ahead of schedule compared to most players of his background but he’s still not nba ready and this team needs an impact lottery pick. Malauch is best suited for a team that can afford to stash and develop him.

My dark horse pick if we fall out of the top 5 is Derik Queen of Maryland. Most would see the top-10 as an overpay for Queen, but he's the kind of versatile passing/rebounding/scoring big I've coveted for the Pels for years. Very much in the Sabonis/Sengun mode and could play at both front court spots. Defensive concerns for sure, just like with Sengun, but he's stronger. Great footwork. Great interior scorer. Good passer. Good ball handler for a big. Outside shot needs some work.

We need someone for that spot. We don’t necessarily need to force someone in that spot.

Dyson was drafted and forced into the PG role and it didn’t work offensively. And we didn’t need him as a pure defensive force because we already had Herb who was better on both sides of the ball.

Honestly, if we don’t get Harper at 2, we probably need to look at a trade because we aren’t going to be able to get one worth anything off the FA market.

Edit - A trade independent of our pick to get a point, NOT trading our first to get a point. Probably flipping CJ and other pieces to get a package with a point to help us weather Murray’s absence.

So what do you do with the PG you traded for when Murray comes back?

I think you try to tread water with Jose/Point Zion/ FA PG until Murray comes back.

What FA PG are we getting with likely league minimum money to work with?

Most ones I’m seeing are making good money or are washed.

We getting Patty Mills up in here? Dante Exum? Delon Wright?

We’ll have the full MLE to work with. I’d throw that at Ty Jerome without thinking twice. Cleveland can’t offer him that much

The fact is that the chances of drafting a transformative player are very low.

Cooper Flagg injured his ankle a little while ago. It looked pretty nasty but I think I read X-rays were negative but it’s really swollen.
