Personally, I think the game has been tinkerer with and analyzed too much over the last decade. This, however, is a rule that I could get behind.

quote:

If I was in charge of MLB, I would add one more rule.

The rule would state that when a team lifts their starting pitcher they lose the DH for the rest of the game.

It will improve the game by incentivizing organizations to develop pitchers not just throwers.

Strategy comes back into baseball with double switches. You please the DH fan and the non DH fan. Most importantly we will start to have starting pitchers who are stars again. Guys who go deep into games. Marquee pitching matchups. No more “openers”. No more bullpen games.

What do you think?

I don’t really think this would do anything. You MAY get one more inning out of a starter based on where his team is in the batting order their next time at the plate. You’re losing 1 to 2 AB’s per game, but once you pull the starter, no pitchers can hit so it doesn’t really matter.

Would it be a good chance, yes perhaps, but I don’t see this really doing much of anything

I don’t hate it and it’s something I could see them implementing. I know there was support from Verlander and Scherzer. As with all these rules, what are the unintended consequences and is something you’re willing to live with

A bunch of the rule changes have been great but I don't know about this one.

I do know that the runner on 2nd in extras sucks and is ghey

If anything, it will eliminate the 1-2 inning openers. But I also don't think the MLB would entertain this change when the game's best player is a primary DH. I don't think the MLB would like the Dodgers having to pull Ohtani from the lineup in the 5th or 6th inning of every game.

MLB ain't about to frick with forcing Ohtani, Soto, Judge, Alvarez and the like out of games. I know Judge and Soto are in the outfield now but they'll both end up primary DH soon enough.

Guess they'll actually have to play a position for their entire careers, or start the game as DH and do a double switch when the starter comes out. I love the idea of 9 fielders occupying the 9 batter slots. DH is gay.

Kinda what I envisioned to keep the high profile DH’s in the game. Depends on how much they give up defensively, which adds to the strategy.

I could get behind this.

But as an adjustment, I could see teams drafting pitchers who are also really good hitters and utilize them as a player/DH like you see in high school and college. That way, once he's done pitching, he stays in the game as the DH.

I could see that backfiring if implemented.

Not a rule change per se, but they need to teach umpires to enforce balks.

Half the relief pitchers in the league never come set, pull their hand in and out of their glove, or do the tappity-tap-tap bullshite with their front foot.

This… DH is the only rule in sports made because a player sucked at an important aspect of the game

They could have it be they have to pull a player but the DH would have to play the field (old double switch rule)
