Trip to Norman for LSU-Oklahoma series

Anyone making the trip to Norman in April familiar with the lay of the land there? Ballpark doesn't look very appealing and Norman/OKC isn't exactly a destination city. Looking forward to going regardless, but wanted to see if tRant had any insight on game experience there.
Looks like only general admission open seating left on OU's website, so the better reserved seating tickets are only available on secondary market.

Norman is fine but check out Bricktown in OKC.
I’ll hopefully be there as I live in Tulsa. Waiting for some baseball schedules for my two boys.

Hey brother. This is J. Figured you may be making the short trip. You got your tix yet? I'm probably just going to get them on stubhub to be done with it (section 10/close to LSU dugout).

Norman is a decent college town. As someone here said, go to Bricktown if you have time. OKC is actually an interesting area.
The ballpark is extremely small though so be prepared for that.

I live 12 miles away and already have my tickets. Never been to a baseball game in Norman though. The basketball experience there was pretty bad outside of our win.
ETA there is lots to see and do in Oklahoma City. Great museums, bars, and entertainment. In addition to Bricktown, better aread include the Plaza District, Film Row, uptown, midtown, and Paseo district.

I live in OKC so plan on making all the games. Like others have said Norman doesn't have too much to offer. Campus Corner is ok and has a few bars and places to eat/drink before the game. We actually went there before the OU-LSU basketball game and had no trouble getting a table 2 hours before the game. The main downside is that its on the other side of campus as the stadium, would be about a 45 minute walk if you chose to do so.
For a traditionally solid baseball team with some historical success their stadium is kind of terrible. They just invest all their money in softball and that stadium is great. I work with a ton OU alumni/boosters and they just don't care about baseball for some reason. They made a few renovations before the season to the stadium but it's still a very small ball park with a capacity around 4,000.

Heads up on the CCR love (not Credence in this case).

How many schools have a better ballpark for their softball team than their baseball team? That's OU.
Dale Mitchell Park used to be terrible -- almost high school-ish. But apparently they added a concourse and upgraded the concessions area.
The place doesn't seat more than 4,000, if that.
The field is all artificial turf, including the pitchers mound.
Oklahoma City has plenty of restaurants and bars. Norman has a cluster of places along I-35, but you'd do better to stay in OKC (about 20 miles north of Norman). Staying in the Bricktown area will put you in the middle of a lot of things.
Cultural suggestion:
If you're looking for something to do during the day, you might check out the OKC Memorial site which honors the memory of the 1995 Murrah Building bombing that killed 168 people. The memorial is very tastefully done and a moving experience.

I agree. It’s very nice. Would certainly recommend for anyone looking for something different to do between games.
Norman is a typical college town. I’d compare it to Tuscaloosa. But more friendly. OU fans especially the older ones are more known for being friendly and not aggressive like most other SEC fan bases. I’d say similar to State fans.
OKC has a lot to do and see. Brick town has plenty going on. It’s honestly a pretty solid medium sized city. It’s got good demographics if you catch my drift. Not a lot of bad pockets. Very middle class centric
