Tipping a Bartender

Say I go into a diveish bar and get happy hour beers. My bill is $13 after 5 draft beers. I kind of feel bad tipping 20%, so I give like $10, because I’m there for an hour or so. Is this normal or do you religiously do 20%. I go by feel, but that’s just me.

$1/beer is considered standard.

I feel like bartenders deserve more than waiters and the like. You can live without food but you can't go without beer

5 pints of draft in an hour is a little much, but I like the $13 price tag. She's probably ringing up freebees for a bigger tip. Which is stealing from her employer.

I gotta fit it in brother. Please don’t judge.

Are you the talkative drunk that distracts her from her other duties or do you bury your head in your phone and drink your beer and listen to the juke box replays of White Snake and peek up at a baseball game on TV you don't even care about?

I double my tab for the tip. Biggest bar tab I had was over $350 so my tab ended up being well over $700. That was at Good times bar in Denham. (Not even a strip joint).

$1 beer tip, but 5 beers for $13 just slide over a $20 and call it a day.

I said diveish bar, but really a dive bar. Super cold beer though.

I said or so. Could’ve been 2 hours.

If it's a bar I frequent that is also typically busy, I tip the shite out the staff so that I'm high on the priority list if they're slammed.
I think a dollar a beer, maybe two dollars per a liquor-mixer or three part drink is fine, and any true and well executed cocktail should be tipped 15-20%.
ETA: Sometimes I will also just open the tab and let them auto-grat the 20% for the whole bill because I don't want to deal with closing out when I'm hammered and run the risk of being way too generous.
