I’ve been told that the state only wants to invest $300-400m in renovations. SKC in its current state doesn’t need any renovations, it needs to be torn down.

It’s quite laughable seeing NHL cities and ownership invest more into $1b arenas and sports district than Pels who are valued more than the almost every NHL team.

Gayle isn't going to invest shite into this team. She's focused on philanthropy and the Catholic Church.

I don't think she will, she wants the State to cover the whole thing.

I think the OKC new arena is about 900 bill, which seems fine compared to what arenas in larger markets are doing

Aren't we still waiting to hear back on the future of the SKC and if it will receive renovations or if there will be a new arena built? Thought there was a big article months and months ago about this and even had all the big wigs in the front office and close to Benson talking about it.

I have some connections with LSED and state wants to put money into renovations. It just seems irresponsible to spend on SKC.

Is there no investment group that would buy the team and build a new arena/complex in the area?

People are always so entrenched on her keeping the team, and I don't know why. It was a great investment that paid off for her. But isn't it time to move on?

The SKC could use some improvements, but it doesn’t warrant a tear down. I’ve been to fancier arenas, but they all have the same basic amenities. Other than that it’s mostly glitz.

She may not care much to spend a ton of $$$, but she doesn’t want to move the team away. That second point means more to most NOLA basketball fans than the former I’m guessing.

I see it often. It needs a lot more than what the normal fan sees.

Yeah, Saints are consistently in the top of the NFL in spending and the Pelicans are consistently top 15 in spending year over year, but sure.

This is false bullshite. You say this like she didn’t just cover 300 million in Superdome renovations.

She only covered $180m and then immediately went up on tickets, parking and concessions 15%.

Concession prices are controlled by the concession vendor of the Superdome which is Sodexo. Saints also do not set parking prices. You can complain about it, but Saints are still top 10 in affordability to attend a game in the NFL. LINK /

Eta: The 180 million was for the latest renovations, they have also contributed more throughout the years including 85 or so million in 2009

I don't care about spending money. But the team needs good facilities and a strong infrastructure. We do need fresh ideas and concepts. Young, inventive leadership with a passion for the game.

What we got is a corporation that just goes through the motions and generally just makes obvious, safe moves. I would love a change at the top. I don't blame or dislike Benson. I just don't think she cares about basketball that much. So she assigned people that were supposed to take care of all that.

I have been a Washington football fan my whole life. We were stuck with the worst ownership in sports. We swap owners and it all changed in one offseason. Top 3 pick to a deep playoff run and a potential contender for the next decade. That's what a change at the top can do. Could it really be that simple for us?

I do not see a big jump in the value of the experience with a new arena; however, it will come with crazy cost increases.

I have always enjoyed going to the games and never have perceived an issue with the arena.
