Can ride sharing/ cab service handle the number of riders that would normally ride the bus?

I expect this to backfire big time on the union strikers.

CATS is almost as big of a scam as BREC

I was under the impression that the busses are nasty and filthy and that passengers have to wait a long periodollically time.

I don't know about that. In 2023, the CATS budget was $51,000,000 and its revenue was around the same. They average 2 million rides per year.

Do the math on that, 2 million rides a year for $51 million in costs is dirt cheap compared to what those ride share costs would be for the same number of rides per year.

Nothing like seeing a bus getting 8mpg driven by a person making 50k+bennies with one passenger on way on way to spend $120 in stamps on on chips and soda at the grocery.

Striking when most people are off work for 2 days during a holiday schedule is not a good start.

2 million rides a year is 5,479 a day. Even if everyone took 2 buses to and from their destination that over 1,000 different people a day. Baton Rouge City has a little over 225,000 people so around .5%-2% ride the bus.

Any ride that requires a bus transfer is 2 rides. So if someone takes 2 buses to work and back that’s 4 rides or $102 round trip. If they work 5 eight hours days that $510 a week or $2050 a month. Be cheaper to buy them a house walking distance from work.

Transportation stuff gets federal funding money.

Yes they use tax stuff for it but the city also gets federal money by having it.

Cats is not going anywhere

I believe CATS is independent from the Mayor/President. I know general funds were used years ago, but the CATS tax I think replaced it.

This Mayor will not intentionally do something to hurt NBRs ability to work.

I’m not against CATS, I’m against their lousy routes, long wait times and inefficient manner they spend money.

The 1st thing they need to do is be honest with how many different people use CATS on a normal day. Cater and be more efficient with them. Then do an on demand with new, occasional riders

Ain't noboby ever going to admit it but there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Public transportation exists mainly so low wage employees can get to their low wage jobs and make their low wage employers wealthy like someone who actually earned their wealth and did not rely on taxpayer subsidies to get wealthy. Cue up the corporate welfare apologist lap dogs who will claim low wage jobs are meant to teach kids to work for a living even though those jobs are going on while those kids are in fricking school LOL....

Who implements how the CATS tax is spent? Genuine question. I’ve always assumed that it was similar to every other tax and the mayor/gov was the sole determinant in how it was utilized

I've always wonder why people say fast food jobs meant for higschoolers. You only think McDonald's should be open from 4pm to 8pm on the weekdays?

There’s a CATS board and President, similar to the City Council

But do they possess the authority to circumvent the city/parish executor? I’m ignorant to city/parish civics
