WTH happened to South Park

It's like the show gradually ended over the last 5-6 years.
Their last sorta "real" season was 2019, and I say sorta because seasons were already gradually shrinking in size as the show went on and we were only getting 10 episode seasons the last few years towards the end.
Over the past 5 years they have mostly sporadically produced specials for Paramount+ with "seasons" of 6 episodes appearing here and there, not even every year.
You can really tell Trey and Matt got burnt out on it mid 2010's and it's been sorta in this bizarre state of semi-existence since then.

They've been doing it for almost 30 years.
Hard to sustain.

They wanted to end a long time ago, but Paramount keeps throwing money at em

I think its hilarious that they actually bought that mexican restaurant in denver

I stopped watching South Park and The Simpsons on any regular basis 15 years ago, maybe longer. Still tuned in, from time to time, but has there been an *official* last episode discussed?
Seems there'd be another movie or some such grand finale'

South park still puts out some great stuff. They are only putting out like 6 episodes per year tho.

That’s probably what’s keeping them so busy. I went to Denver last summer for a concert and I attempted to get a reservation but I was unsuccessful. I’m still on the waiting list to get in. I did take some pictures outside.

I'd love to go to Casa Bonita. There's a 400,000 person waitlist. They underestimated just how beloved that restaurant was. I think it's cool as hell they made it exactly like it was when it first opened, but even better behind the scenes for the staff.

Apparently there’s some legal dispute going on as well with Paramount so that might be part of the problem too

The quality dropped off immensely around 2010. I can't even imagine how bad it must be today.

It's still plenty good considering its age.
I wasn't a fan of them going to serialized storylines myself, I prefer when the episodes were self contained.

Or maybe you just suck now. Some of the best episodes of all time came out after 2010

Peaked around season 8 IMO

The documentary on that is pretty great. Shows just how much work, time, and money they have put into that place.
I agree that the show took a dip when it started continuing stories instead of making each episode self contained for the most part. But there have still been some solid episodes. But there hasn’t been an actual season in over two years now (last one started in February of ‘23). And that sucks.
I get that they are likely tired of it and all of that. But when they put their heads down and try, it’s still one of the best shows on television.
I’m surprised Comedy Central hasn’t forced their hand and made them do a new season to air. I guess they’re still content with the ratings for reruns.

They have been waiting it out for the Max deal to end and all of it is consolidated on Paramount+. It’s supposed to happen some time this year but no one has given a date yet.

And very wealthy. Made their bank already.

After Book of Mormon they really focused on other things. They seem more worried about their Mexican restaurant right now.

Sold out. The last true season was the introduction of PC Principal which was a great season but it hasn’t been very good since then outside of a couple episodes here and there.

I wouldn't say sold out, but lost their passion for it.
Many people believe the You're Getting Old episode is about Matt, Trey, and the show itself.
The timing lines up with when South Park stopped being their sorta sole focus.
