Sounds good to me.

ETA
I agree with the comments below about skipping Pisa. If you need another day trip from Florence I would much rather go to the Cinque Terre or to the Tuscan hill towns.

If you do go to Pisa, try to combine it with Lucca which is nearby.

haven't been but daughter said Pisa was a complete waste of time. Not worth it at all. Spend another day in Florence or in the surrounding hillside towns.

From Florence, skip Pisa and do the day trip to San Gimignano.

Schedule more down time. Some of these museums and sites are a must. But the most enjoyable aspects of Italy are the days where you just wander and relax.

It's not a terrible itinerary at all. As stated, dump Pisa and spend a day in the Tuscan countryside.

We actually did an organized day trip that combined Siena, San Gimignano, and Pisa, and it was a great day. Pisa was last and we weren't there too long, so it was perfect. I wouldn't have wanted more time there but I was happy to see it.

IMO, that is too much time in Venice. Cut it down a day and add a day in Rome to just soak up the atmosphere.

Oh, and in Florence you have to go to the Academia to see the David. It is considered the greatest sculpture on earth. You have to go see it.

Friends recommended a twilight food and wine tour through Trastevere with LINK and it was really a great use of time

I'm planning a trip to Italy with my wife for our 30th anniversary next year and we're going to the same places as you but we will not stay as long at a couple of them and add Cinque Terre as a stop as well. Going to take the train everywhere, seems like a great way to travel and am looking forward to it.

We're more than likely going to do a day trip to Milan from Venice. One of my wife's big things is she wants to unpack as little as possible. I had thought about 3 nights in Venice but with not getting in until 2 in the afternoon or so that first day is really going to be a relax and crash day anyway. Then like I said we'll head over to Milan one day from Venice, she wants to see The Last Supper.

Agree with both of these. We went to Venice, Florence and Rome last year. 3 days in Venice is plenty. I’d personally want another day in Florence. But you could add a day to Rome and take a day trip to the Amalfi coast.

I'd do the route in the opposite order. Fly into Naples/rome... Fly out of Venice.

Cut down 1-2 days from Venice... especially by the end of the trip, it all won't be that "exciting and special". Cut out the trip to Pisa from Florence. I'd personally cut out the day trip from Rome to Naples and just add time in Amalfi.
3 days in amalfi may be 1 too many, but that first day is rough with jet lag. It may be worth only spending 2 nights in Positano so you can do a wine tour in Tuscany.

Here's the ChatMahootney version:

Here's your updated itinerary with 12 nights in Italy:

### **Day 1 (July 4): Depart from Dallas**
- One stop flight from Dallas (DFW) to Naples(NAP).
- Hire private car to drive you to Sorrento or Positano. You don't want to drive yourself on the coastal road.

### **Days 2-4 (July 5-7): Positano (3 Nights)**
- Arrive in Positano and check in to a hotel with a view.
- Explore Positano and the beach to adjust to jet lag.
- Take a day trip to Capri.
- Enjoy a relaxing start to the trip.

### **Days 5-7 (July 8-10): Rome (3 Nights)**
- Hire a private car to drive you to Rome. (~2 hours).
- Enjoy the **Trevi Fountain** and **Spanish Steps** in the evening.
- Visit **Colosseum**, **Roman Forum**, and **Pantheon**.
- Explore **Vatican City**, including **St. Peter’s Basilica** and **Sistine Chapel**.
- Visit a 3 star Michelin restaurant or two.
- Wander through **Trastevere** for charming streets and local food.

### **Days 8-10 (July 11-13): Florence (3 Nights)**
- Take a short train ride to Florence (~1.5 hours).
- Visit **Ponte Vecchio**, **Uffizi Gallery**, and **Piazza del Duomo**.
- Explore **Boboli Gardens** and **Pitti Palace**.
- Visit the Academia to see "David"., and **Santa Maria del Fiore**, and **Santa Croce**, and buy something from the leather school.
- Non-Optional day trip to **San Gimignano** or **Siena** for medieval charm.
- Enjoy a sunset at a rooftop bar along the Arno.
**If you have to add any days to the trip or rearrange where to stay, add a day to Florence and book a Chianti or Tusacany wine and cheese tour day.**

### **Days 11-13 (July 14-16): Rome (3 Nights)**
- Train to Venice (~2 hours).
**St. Mark’s Basilica**, **Doge’s Palace**, and **Rialto Bridge**.
- Take a **Gondola Ride** and walk through the less crowded areas like **Dorsoduro**.
- Visit **Murano and Burano Islands** for glassmaking and colorful streets.
- Enjoy a relaxing evening on the **Grand Canal** and visit **Teatro La Fenice**.

### **Day 14 (July 17 or 18): Fly Home from Venice**
- Enjoy a relaxed morning before heading to **Venice Airport (VCE)** for a nonstop return to Dallas.

You'd be there the week after the Palio in Sienna, so all the flags from each neighborhood(contrade) will still be up. We were there right after it two years ago. Was pretty neat to see.

I'd echo skipping Pisa and venture out into the Tuscan country side. Find a vineyard or two to go to. Montalcino and Montepulciano are a bit of a haul from Florence, but those are incredible areas with fantastic wines.

We don't drink at all. I know I know but just not something either one of us has ever done. Maybe we'll try one over there but honestly wine tasting is just not on our list of important things to do in Italy. I do think visiting the vineyards would be cool.

Instead of doing wine, they have many Olive Gardens (not the restaurant) over in Italy where you can tour and sample fresh Olive Oils if you want to skip alcohol all together.
