Those ba$tards! Those employees have given their careers to overly expensive coffee and the exploitation of farmers in equatorial regions around the globe.
Yeah, no one acts like the world is coming to an end when layoffs happen in the private sector.

Starbucks plans to lay off 1,100 corporate employees globally as new Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol streamlines operations.
In a letter to employees released Monday, Niccol said the company will inform employees who are being laid off by mid-day Tuesday. Niccol said Starbucks is also eliminating several hundred open and unfilled positions.
“Our intent is to operate more efficiently, increase accountability, reduce complexity and drive better integration,” Niccol wrote in the letter.
Starbucks has 16,000 corporate support employees worldwide, but that includes some employees who aren’t impacted, like roasting and warehouse staff. Baristas in the company’s stores are not included in the layoffs.
Niccol said in January that corporate layoffs would be announced by early March. He said all work must be overseen by someone who can make decisions while the the Seattle coffee giant reduces the complexity of its structure and eliminates silos within the company that slow communication.

CNN laid off 6 percent of its workforce, and then trotted out fired government workers to tell their sob stories.

Hmmm, I guess they have some all white Starbucks somewhere. If they really want to improve their shops they need to ditch all the uncomfortable wooden chairs and buy stuff with cushions.

Did they check with the DNC and the media on this?

It's the Elon Effect. All of a sudden EVERYONE is concerned with efficiency. Gotta love it!

Should have laid off 15000. A coffe shop doesn’t need 16000emplyees as admin staff at HQ

I don't think many are saying layoffs or reductions aren't warranted in government staff. Most of the commentary has been about the ridiculous way it's being done.
Notice here there are clear lines of who could be impacted, a specific announcement date of when, no email to baristas asking them to give 5 things they accomplished this week, no CEO saying they're all lazy and entitled on Twitter, etc...

I don't go there unless someone wants to meet there. The idea of spending $6 for a Latte just does not make sense. I make mine at home and office with the Whole beans and that is just as good if not better.

How does a chain of coffee shops have 1,100 employees just in their HQ - much less 1,100 employees to fire?

I totally understand. But I can tell a HUGE difference. I started drinking dark roast coffee every morning at age 4. This was not unusual for Cajun children. A few years ago I went into a Books-A-Million stand and ordered a quad espresso. I took one sip and said: 'Is this Robusto beans?' He said 'Yes.' I didn't ask for my money back but I just put it down, left and never went back. Also, you cannot make the same espresso at home. Alton Brown covered this in a video. The pressure to get the right taste requires a home machine that costs about $4K. However, if my taste in coffee was the same as my taste in different priced wines I would never go to Starbucks.

I hope they go bankrupt for all the filth they promoted over the years.

I've seen new management brought with one of the main goals being cut staff, especially mid-management, even to find reason to fire one specific person. I've seen them bring in "consultants", like the Bob's in Office Space, to do the same thing. Anybody who has Assistant in their official job title is especially vulnerable.

Maybe don't charge $17 for a cup of shitty coffee.

Didn’t Starbucks make the news recently because they were going to keep all the DEI policies in place? Starbucks would rather layoff 1,000 people instead of cutting all the DEI bullshite!
