Who was responsible for making these picks? I could go on and on with the obscure names. David Jones out of Wingate

Any pick from the 4th round on you can't really judge harshly. The odds of late round picks making it to a gameday roster are slim.

Kikaha was on his way to being a decent player until his injury.

This board fawned themselves for weeks over this guy before the draft

Tore his ACL twice in college. Warning signs were there and to think Oschner could protect him from injury was insanity.

We had four picks and also got Malcolm Jenkins and Thomas Morstead in that draft.

This. If you want to complain about that draft, complain about Stephon Anthony who was a first rounder but only lasted a few year in the league without doing anything.

This is a random crap list. Some of these guys were drafted 15 years ago and the most recent is 7 years ago. Do you think it’s the same staff and scouts as then? That was two coaching staffs ago!

Cie Grant? Stephone Anthony?

We’ve been really poor at evaluating lb’s.

Ultimately Loomis, but realistically that is not how they operate, these decisions would have been made based on the scouting department, which has been overhauled entirely since all of these picks except for Leonard, who was a 7th round pick and not indicative of anything.

One of the things that fans do a lot is point to bad picks as reasoning for "why a team is bad at drafting", but the reality is that every single team, even dynasties / the absolute best drafting teams, miss on many (if not the majority) of their picks. We are no different.

I don't say this to defend the current Ireland-led scouting department specifically, they have had some bad misses in recent years, but they are not anywhere near terrible. They're for sure in the top half of scouting departments, and I'd argue top 10.

Did you really pull a guy from the Haslett days to compare to the current teas' ability to evaluate anyone

Looks like their LBer talent "evaluations" have been better since then. They did recently draft Pete Wenrer & Zach Baun , Ellis , Anzalone

They also recently drafted Ford & Jackson; both 5th rounders, who have primarily been STers under the previous coaching staff

David Jones was ok - we cut him in Training Camp and went to the Bengals and started a few seasons. Wasn't a super star but had a good career

Rick Leonard himself didn't expect to get drafted. ESPN didn't even have a picture of him for the draft profile.

That was an all time wtf pick

I still remember before I got banned on saintsreport for going ape shite over the Leonard pick. And a lot of posters had this same sentiment. It’s only a 4th round pick. The problem was the guy wasn’t even a starter on FSU. We drafted a backup off their oline. Every expert had him as an udfa. And we took him in the 4th.

The guy I said we should have drafted instead who was on the board. One Josh sweat who shoulda been named the superbowl mvp last week…..

And the guy who signed off on this still gets to make the picks. I get the optimism on the new regime, but until the team is sold to hold Loomis accountable it’s a futile exercise.

This board has picked better than Loomis.

One year of his career was spent with the Saints. Saints had Chip Vaughn on the roster for one year in their franchise history. Saints won one championship in their franchise history. It was the one season Chip Vaughn was on the Saints roster. 100% of the seasons Chip Vaughn played for the Saints ended in a Super Bowl win.

Chip Vaughn = Championship
