The local news outlet just posted an article about the "what did you do last week email".

They got it and lots of people are squirming. Funny thing is, it's been a running joke for a long time that nobody out there does anything and they all get paid obscenely. My wife's friend is always complaining about her husband hanging out at the house all day.. of course she doesn't work because he's paid so well, and he's been WFH since Covid.

These people are so out of touch with reality. The comments section is golden. The idea they're having to go into the office, possibly be transferred, be held accountable, show their worth, possibly be laid off, means we need to have sympathy for them is so delusional. Like.. welcome to real life. Im loving it.

It won’t do shite for the debt, but as long as you’re feeling good.

Exactly let's let them grift off the tax payers!

What a stupid fricking take. It may not, in the grand scheme of things, be a huge part of the debt. It is, however, a huge part of the culture of entitlement in government.

It's part of what makes people so laissez-faire about government waste, fraud, and abuse

It’s about reducing the size of government. The smaller the federal government the more freedom we can enjoy. Glad I could clear that up for you.

This may be the political brochure answer, but in reality it’s just a vendetta against anyone you think is Liberal.

No, it’s a vendetta against anyone who’s not doing shite and getting paid for it.

So I agree with you it won’t do shite about the debt because they’ll still be paid, but if suddenly they’re actually doing shite for getting paid, it’s a massive net positive.

Even if it doesn't wouldn't we all be better off if government employees performed better and were more efficient? It's hilarious to me that you and many others seem to think it's "reduce debt or bust"

Nah, that’s just a happy by-product of having accountability in government.

Seems like a pretty big blanket of layoffs so far regardless of productivity.

Elon’s not going to respond well when you tell him that all you did last week was f-off and shite-post on a regional /pol board.

Awesome post! Post a link to the news story so we can add worry to the comments. Understand if you don't but it would be fun.

On a side note, my wife retired after our first baby, I think we were making 30K between us, if that much, I was still in school. She stayed home for six weeks after the birth of our first daughter until her leave was up, spent one day back at work, came home crying and told me she was not going back to work.

She retired that day, I had to step up. That was 30 years and 3 more kids ago. It's amazing how people can be motivated.

Need to be thousands more. The government has become a "make work" operation which does absolutely nothing for the American people...it only enriches those who work for the Borg.

They're going to find out that less than half the Federal workforce writes above a 5th grade level.

Blanket layoffs, then bring back the ones you really need. Only way to do this.

Around 2015, average wages were the same for govt and private sectors.
By 2022 the avg govt salary was -8% compared to the private sector salary. This is from a CBO report. The same report showed a greater percentage of private sector employees working from home than govt.
If they are getting paid "obscenely" yet 8% less than the private sector, who exactly is overpaid here?

Across the spectrum, total compensation favors govt employees by about 5% due to the benefits. You can't spend your benefits.

For an 8% differential in pay, if a govt employee makes $60k / yr, then the private sector person makes $400 more per month, which is a giant step up in a mortgage or car payment, or saving for a family vacation, or a big jump in health insurance coverage. Or in an index fund for 30 years, that would generate an extra $400k if just $200/mo was invested and allow you to get about $30k-$50k more house and still afford the mortgage.

You guys continue to bitch about nothing with regard to the typical govt worker. If we retired these people instead of making them out to be serial killers, we'd save over 50% of the expense and allow them to get a part time job in order to have a full time income. That's a win for everyone.
