I don't know if I can get on board with this. I agree with the keeping men out of women's sports, 100%. But what if the opposite happens, a democrat does this to a state until they allow abortions, let trans play in whatever sport they want.
An EA controls the executive, it doesn't control what states do. You need to think this all the way thru.
What funding is he talking about?
I love the boldness and action of Trump, but I'm thinking about what is going to happen when another POTUS wants to take it out on Texas or FL.

Louisiana was the last state to drop the DWI “presumption of intoxication” bac level to .08.

Louisiana was holding at .10. The reason we lowered it was the threat of losing federal money.

It happens all of the time to states and contractors working for the federal government. If you don’t play by their rules you don’t get their money. I’m not sure that I see the problem there. No state or individual is entitled to receive federal funds.

This was also the case when they moved the drinking age from 18 to 21. I think Louisiana was the last state back in the early 90's

South Dakota v. Dole says Trump can do this. I personally would love to see this overturned though as it infringes on the 10th Amendment.

Why?

A POTUS can issue whatever EO he or she wants.

Why couldn't the next Democratic POTUS issue some kind of EO about those things and then withhold federal funds from states that refused to comply?

This is why the legislature needs to be the one to pass these edicts. I understand using EOs to handle some things, but the majority need to come from Congress.

Or what if they withhold highway funds until you raise the drinking age to 21?

Title IX is a law passed by congress. he is using the law combined with EO stating that the intent of the law was to protect biological women. Maine is not follow the law so he can withhold.

there is no law protecting abortions from congress.....

I thought the threat was just that Louisiana would lose highway funding. Not all funding across the board.

Why are my taxes going to Maine, or any state, anyway? Outside of emergency/disaster relief and interstate infrastruture, why are states entitled to federal dollars, especially mismanaged states? We are so accustomed to big government & sucking its tit, we don't even ask the question anymore. Let states sink or swim. Voting has consequences. Less federal handouts, less big government, less taxes.

Supreme court has ruled abortions are a state's rights issue.

Dems have been bullying us for years. We finally get someone who pushes back and you get nervous? It's not like they're going to start playing nicey, nicey if Trump were to back down.
