It’s amazing how conservative Miami has become in the last 25 years. It’s a totally different city now from the one portrayed In Miami Vice back in the 80’s.

The Cuban immigrants have overtaken the NYC and NJ snowbird culture with their traditional family culture.

I'm not even sure it's conservative, it's just they are sick and tired of trash coming, getting absolutely wasted, and causing huge issues.

You had tons of "students" coming down and wilding, acting as if there were no laws, fighting each other and the police. They destroyed businesses, homes, and vehicles. The funny thing was them acting surprised that they were not welcome to come wreck Miami Beach again.

It becomes affordable when you bring booze from home and cram in 2-3x the number of occupants that your hotel or vacation rental is supposed to have.

I thought Cubans have always (since coming to America in the 70s and 80s) been pretty conservative?

Miami Beach isn't even the best beach to go to in the area. Finding paid parking is miserable. You're better off renting a condo/hotel along the water and going to the beach that way, but it's still not great compared to some of the beaches in Broward County.

That was my thinking as well.

You flee someone like Castro and you should be pretty averse to chaos and foolishness like what kept flowing into Miami every April.

I think last year was the first year the city really took active measures to prevent the frickery that had become common over the last decade. I was there with my family and it was clear they were gearing up for college spring break the week after we were there. There were cops everywhere, barricades, curfews, etc. Miami beach is done with all the bullshite fighting, twerking, blocking traffic, etc. It was killing the businesses along A1A /Collins and the residents had enough.

People living in $30M homes don’t like trashy spring breakers coming in and messing with their neighborhoods.

Even places like Daytona and PCB long ago decided it wasn’t worth the drama and have cracked down dramatically, particularly as property values increased.

No one wants the problems that come with the college, HS and “non-college”spring breakers because it chases out family spring breakers with money, leads to massive property damage and requires massive overtime for police to ensure public safety.
