If there is one thing I hate it’s being nickel and dimed. For instance we are at the hospital for the birth of our second girl and we have to pay for parking $6 a day. Now I know it’s only like $20 for the few days we are here but come on. I’m about to pay thousands for a C-section and yall are gonna charge me to pay in your parking garage. And this is in a suburb of Birmingham not New York City for crying out loud.

That covers property taxes and continuous upkeep that parking garages require that you never even think about.

Can't bill insurance for parking so you gotta pay.

You really should thank your lucky stars it's not like N.Y. That $6 parking charge would likely run you $25 and up. That is a pretty reasonable parking lot rate for the N.O. area------until you hit the French Quarter, then it's gonna get stupid.

Is that the hospital that used to provide parking validation?

It’s annoying but the garage might not be owned by the hospital. But even if it is, there’s a difference between parking for 3 days and 20 minutes. By charging separately, they can charge accordingly.

EDIT: Oh, and I see your subtle “I had sex nine months ago” brag. Congrats on the new addition.

Pretty cheap. Possible it is just enough to keep people from taking advantage of free parking.

The hospital was just bought out a few months back and when we had our first they gave people a pass to use for free parking while your baby was here. So that was helpful and I’m sure it’s just the new corporation trying to make some extra money. The garage is attached to the hospital and unless you are going to the hospital there isn’t anything near it

This is likely not about revenue…it is about having too many vesitkrs in the hospital. Sometimes when someone is in the hospital, they have ten folks in the room at the same time visiting. When you are in the hospital you need someone to stay to help out….however, they are not meant to be a social gathering place.

What I really hate is when hotels charge parking. I have a friend who took his family this week to Boston and is paying $75.00 a day for 6 days to park at a Marriott.

There’s a valid gripe here but the parking is a small part of it. My wife had a small procedure last year, that initially started as a $3000 dollar co-insurance charge on a $20k, procedure that ended up more like $3800 after all the little random bills that kept showing up. On top of the $300 pre-op exam. $100 bill for a lab charge, $150 to the on-site pharmacy, $300 to anesthesiology that’s its own entity. All covered somewhat by insurance, but the bills just kept showing up over following month.

They think it’s ok because they’re all small, and they think we’re not smart enough to distinguish that because they’re not the $20k sticker price of the procedure, that they’re a bargain.

You would not have much liked the old five and dime stores back in the day.

Try having a family member going through cancer at MD Anderson

We probably spent over $500 just in parking

This has absolutely zero to do why a new administrator now charges for parking. What a stupid post

Should have thought about that before you left it in.
