USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), the flagship of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, collided with M/V Besiktas-M around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday near Port Said, Egypt, in the Mediterranean Sea, the Navy said Thursday. The carrier did not experience flooding and the crew did not report injuries, Cmdr. Tim Gorman, spokesperson for U.S. 6th Fleet said in a statement. Truman‘s propulsion plants are unaffected. The collision is under investigation with no more information immediately available.
USNI News
Other sources report the other ship is a Panamanian-flagged tanker of 53k tons, so this was a fairly large collision.

Seems like the other ship should have seen a big arse aircraft carrier

How is this allowed to happen?

CO will be removed with 90% certainty unless it is without a doubt the other vessel"s fault. Navy doesn't fck around with collisions

The other vessel is nearly 200 meters long, so it’s not a small ship either.

Seems like a good reason to get Harry into port and give her a coat of rust converter and a freshy of gray paint. And maybe a new anchor, looks rusty too.

The way the article is worded, it sounds like the carrier hit the merchant vessel?
If so, prayers for the carrier skipper’s naval career. Glad no one was hurt.

This seemed like a useful comment on the USNI article:

Le'me guess, it was untied outside of the channel when it went drifting into the channel with the wind and the pilot/master couldn't control it before scraping up against the Truman? Meanwhile Truman's lookouts didn't communicate

Dang that ship needs PM and a paint job. Never seen one of our ships look so shabby. It's an embarrassment really.

Maybe mention damage to the other ship? Did it sink? Spill product? Mention 2 ships give info on 2 ships.
